Please note that I have just released a new, bug fixed version called: Pentagram V1.10

Please download the new one.

Really sorry for missing the bug in the first place.

The bug is in the RND function that can sometimes cause only 4 runes to be generated.

The new version uses the Atari versions method for RND which works fine.

I'd give 10 but game is hardly playable with more soft sprites around.

Yes, this game engine is written very much will the Spectrum's hardware in mind.

The upside down rendering helps the Z80 but the C64 has to take this into account when working out where to start drawing the sprites.

My Alien 8 port works the same way, the graphics are also upside down (the Speccy pulled them from the stack) and organized like the Speccy screen - even if the original I used is from the BeeB.

Anyway, great work for porting it to C64!

I truly liked the speccy version, but as I never had a speccy I was playing it in emulators on my Amiga Art then my A3000. Knight Lore was great as well.
What a pleasant surprise to find it ported, respect!

Thanks for all your great comments.

Mariusz did most of the cleaver stuff with his A8 conversion and was kind enough to release the source code to enable me to convert it to the 64.

Converting his code was much easier than I thought as he kept the Atari specific code separate from the main game code. You can see most of the Atari (and the original Z80 code) in the source file. Also the two (A8 and 64) machines are both 64k 6502 based machines and that's the hardware that's being used in this conversion (with a little bit of Sid!)

Interesting to note that the game renders the graphics to a buffer first upside down! The first version I had running had all the graphics running upside down!!

Yes Knight Lore and the other one would be nice converted in the same way, but a lot of work!!
