Most likely this all is due to a broken disk/drive/transfer, the other two chess programs on the disk are also broken because of randomly injected bytes. RIP disk.

Changing line 648 to a=1:load“!colo”,8,1 fixes at least the loading sequence as it was intented in the BASIC loader I think. It then loads a short program to $c000 that then loads the main prg "!co" subsequently and jmps to $5e00, but after this CPU jams at $6FA0.

Just LIST the basic loader and see how badly the transfer is borked.
Nothing to do with Pi or the emu.

Interestingly put the Pi symbol in the name of the game and the emulators don't recognise it.
