Scandalous... the whole compo must be re-done now...

However, personally, I got a fever...
Quoting 'Psycho'
...somehow I missed the cowbell...

I think the only crime is that there ain't be more cowbell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHTe2_b8uEA

Good catch Sychamis.
It's been some time, and I must admit that I was puzzled when I read your comment about waveforms. However, I remember that the rules changed during the compo (please check the forum discussion). At one point, Eric Dobek allowed the use of $1 through $8.

Therefore, as you rightly noticed, the snare is using $55.

Regarding filter usage, damn, I swear I could give my arm to be sure that I switched off the filter in all sounds, but somehow I missed the cowbell in the first few seconds of the tune, and yes, it does use a filter. Damn. I had to check it twice, and unfortunately, you were right. Now I’d be one-armed.

I don’t mind if the tune gets disqualified; it’s a consequence of being sloppy.

The register dump of this tune shows that waves $54 and $55 were used on voice 1. Filter is also used on both voice 1 and 2 for one drum sound (the first one you hear when playing the tune). Even if this tune uses illegal elements, their impact is insignificant in the final result.
To be clear, my goal is not to get this disqualified as the compo ended almost four years ago, I discovered this by accident and I don't want to see this escalate nor harm anyone.

@sychamis: I doubt any rules were broken.

Check out the rules again by scrolling far down here:
Filterless Single Channel Compo 2020

Eric Dobek's rules were always a little whacko special, e.g.
"Only one channel can be used at a time. For example, if channel 3 is being used, channel 1 and channel 2 can't be used. ...
-$x0, $x1, $x2, and $x3 are the only waveforms allowed.
-Most importantly, don't use the filtertable!"

I love this tune but I noticed that one of the drums is using the filter. Ringmod also seems to be used with $51 and the frequency value on channel 3 is changing (according to deepsid); I don't know if this was used on a prototype version then muted on the final release but it seems odd either way.

I can hear it's one channel but only because I know it is. I'm not sure I'd have picked that up without knowing first. Amazing sounds too.

WTF!!! How did I miss this compo entirely? This piece is insane. I somewhat get how you are able to create such a rich composition in 1 channel. What I absolutely don't get is how you get those quick tapping sounds and similar stuff without filters.

When I first saw TowerPower glenz sphere in 94, I yelled WTF and fell of my chair. This is the music equivalent of that moment :) Thanks for blowing my mind Marcin :)

PS: the accompanying gfx has so much attitude too, Joe :)

This one goes to eleven!

PS: I've listened and commented before finding out about it's winning that compo which means it's done with all these silly but extremely tough restrictions, jaw drops hard

This one is even better than your other tune in the compo. Limitations bread creativity!

He most likely felt offended by the title (thus proving the point).

@Linus: My guess it was one of those who obviously never will manage to produce this EVER in their life-time.
It's called jealousy I think and was one of the lesser human abilities, thinking it took 4.543 billion years of evolution ;D

Who would give this a 7? A single voice tune without filters breathing THIS kind of quality? O_o
