@jetboy

The editor. Is there a version "for the rest of us"? Github is a dark and scary place. :) I think we need a download link to something that you just click and run and it works. If so, I would be happy to test it and play around.

@joe:
> What can this NUFliX mode do, which the previous mode(s) couldn't?

It can have sprite colors changed every line, giving much more creative freedom. Potentially - there needs to be enough cycles, but then not every sprite needs to have colors changed in each line, it makes painting easier and harder at the same time. But that is not the most important thing. The most important feature is the editor (that runs on win/linux/mac) that lets one work in real time, seeing feedback in VICE within fractions of a second.

> Too bad you coders always have such hurry you can't allow artists to actually test it out over a period of say 5-7 months and do original artwork before converting stuff?

5 months takes forever... we are coders for a reason, so we can make computers do stuff we would be too lazy to do ourselves. Plus some of us get excited easily. I do!
Add to that we are not getting any younger, 5 month might mean some of us won't be there anymore in that time. In those rare days when i'm not struggling with depression i try to make of them as much as i can - and that means rushing stuff, coz any minute it can comeback, and i won't be able to act at all then.

Plus the culture of crackers and 0 dayz releases. In that case 1 day is like forever.

> All I see now is a blurry dithered image, based on some A.I. Lion and it looks well, ok, kind of crappy at parts, unfinished. Buggy. So what's the deal here? is there an editor?
Yes there is editor https://csdb.dk/forums/?roomid=11&topicid=168587#168980

> And as a result, it leaves me, as an artist, completely uninterested in NUFliX for all time to come.
That surely was not my intention. NUFLIX editor is great piece of code, and the most exciting release of the year for me. I was hoping to motivate artist to make those examples of good use of the format in less than 5-7 months and show me where my place is. Well, i failed it for you, but at least you know now of it's existence.

At first painting with NUFLIX reminds me first days of trying Art Studio and wondering why do we have to play whack a mole with changing colors. I could have just stop there and give up, but instead i learned why it happen and how to utilize it. It is the same with NUFLIX, just the thing is way more complicated, but we still play whack a mole. But it can be understood. And it will be improved. There is wonderful write up explaining the magic by cobbpg author of NUFLIX.

Yes it would be great if there were some pictures where artist took time to figure out the editor and the format quirks and made best use of them. But as pointed out - it takes lots of time. So in the meantime star lion needs to suffice.

@joe2:
Like Commodore was promoting their computers with subpar graphic, way below it's real capabilities. I'm taking lessons from the best :)

Well, i take it as a game of poker. I bluff with my pair of 9's, you can raise with your three of aces if you wish, maybe someone will raise with full, or poker someday.

Scene used to be about showing you can do better, now it seems is about ranting. I liked the old scene with cocky bullshit scrollers way better after all.

These modes are not made for artists anyway.

Mediocre so-so conversion indeed

To clarify, for those who didn't understood what I just wrote. It's just like having Mayhem promoting interlaced graphics back in the day:

Part from the image shown here, which is completely uninteresting to me.
What can this NUFliX mode do, which the previous mode(s) couldn't? I've been trying to follow the discussion and counting the colors.
Too bad you coders always have such hurry you can't allow artists to actually test it out over a period of say 5-7 months and do original artwork before converting stuff?
All has to be rushed!
All I see now is a blurry dithered image, based on some A.I. Lion and it looks well, ok, kind of crappy at parts, unfinished. Buggy. So what's the deal here? is there an editor?
Haha, and yeah, it's surely is carefully careless placed and selected pixels ;D
And as a result, it leaves me, as an artist, completely uninterested in NUFliX for all time to come.

I thought it was multi, just by looking at the screenshot. Nice workflow Jetboy – the early tool adopter.

I hope this will push hand pixel artists even more to discover some new techniques, i.e. Joe's new style will be AI safe for a while :D

That indeed is great loss, but those pesky ready made AI images are mainly portraits, so it is hard to fit everything that is important :)
