@DK: Try plugging a Joystick in Port 2, and you'll never want Port 1 again! (Who needs Mouse?)

Interesting, but not my cuppa tea. The diagonal layout and the twisting just make the lines seem all wrong! ;-)

Is there anyone preferring a mouse to Joystick & Keyboard? I know I do whenever possible (otherwise Joystick)...

conrad: It IS a space satellite orbiting the earth! But it landed here in town. Lucky for us, the aliens came in peace.

I suppose the original building is impressive when standing close to it, the picture doesn't appeal to me much. Technically it's good, but the subject doesn't fill my heart with warmth. (And that's what I need, buckets with love, not concrete)

i'm probably the wrong guy to judge on the technical part behind this one; and just like with the pic of kali - from which i know that harryhausen's creation has been too much of an inspiration for james' version :) - i couldn't savely tell whether it's wired or a handmade duplicate. all i can say is that is that i like the outcome, in my world that's what counts.

I personally think you should produce more for this scene.

Thanks goes to the brave ones still: WD + FOCUS + VISION + K2 + CHORUS + TRIAD + PANDA DESIGN + RESOURCE + BOOZE + STYLE + ONSLAUGHT + OXYRON.
Good night.

"It's just a converted pic of The Boris Vallejo Dragon in Fantasy world! what has this to do with scene ?"

Yes.... That is THE TWIST! ;D

Now... U all go work on your hands, and do some wire-works...
2008 and everything is possible still.

<edit> cable-works </edit>

Jailbird: Nah, you're not. I've seen Twoflower handle his stick as well. He does a fine handjob.

Nah, it's wired. I can tell by some of the pixels, and from having seen quite a few converts in my time.

By the way, Joe also pixels with the keyboard? The horror!
I am starting to think I might be the only one who pixels on C64 with a joystick. :D

Anyone can say a wired pic is a handjob, but there are ways to tell!

Radiantx: "Archmage: The point lies not in the end result, but in the craft"

I'm not sure that I fully agree. Speaking of the end result, my initial comment still stands - its nice and interesting to look at, and the pixels and texturing adds to it.

However, I do think the craft is important and relevant when it comes to gfx on the c64. According to E.S.' remark, there is no lack of skill here, so I have no problems accepting that it is a handjob.

But the question remains: why copy a photo by hand when there are more efficient ways of doing it? Why go all photorealistic when you are not using the photo itself? Unless its an art project with some thoughts behind it, in which case I would love to have the artist share these thoughts.

I have no beef here, I'm just curious.

@Leon: hehe that one was cool ;)

@Archmage + others: when you can draw stuff like this & this using just a keyboard and a c64,
I think there is something else at stake. Don't you?
But sure, a normal wirejob (a handjob with a lot of wires ;) ) would probably have made it all go faster ;)

"Archmage: The point lies not in the end result, but in the craft"

Which is true for every handjob if you think about it.

Well, I do like the picture in itself when speaking of composition, texturing, colour use and so on - except for the horrible signature.

What I don't get is why you did it as a handjob (!) like you said you did. You should have wired it and cleaned it up and you would have had the exact same result. Much more time efficient. ;)

I hope I won't have to spell out my point here.

Be careful with the profane ideas, you will be considered to have a weird twisted mind if you do! So do you dare step outside that small square?

Thumbs up James!

@Rambones: Joe says it's a hand job. What the definition of that is, I leave undiscussed here ;-)

@Chico: by definition, artists express themselves more than engineers. So your tool is probably cheered at as much as this picture, but it's not expressed... or just believe so, as a consolation ;-)

It's just a converted pic of The Turning Torso building in Malmö! what has this to do with scene ?
User Comment
Submitted by saehn on 17 January 2008
Yeah, why do rock stars get all the girls when engineers sit at home? ;) It's all about glamour and emotional response, Chico. I'm sure your tool is appreciated, but people are just less likely to get worked up about utilities.

Good work, Joe, btw. ;)

lol ... it´s always funny 4 me .... I work weeks on a tool and there´s no enthusiasm for it ... and (it´s only one of a lot of examples) s.o. made sth like this here and there are lots of positive comments ! but what, please, is this so great with this gfx? I can give no account of it.

I find that hard to believe, it looks just too real.

But if you say its handmade i will not call you a liar.

Being a hand job i must say kudos for the accuracy and realism.

Im sorry i have to ask, but is it actually
handpixeled or a partly / complete wirejob ?

Well, I think that the subject of the source is well known without additional emphasise...
The unusual angle, the reduced brightness, the high contrast and the monochrome colorscheme makes it calm, slowly dynamic and deep for me. Whereas the building itself radiates an agile, poppy style with an accent on modernism.
Always loved Joe's C64ish interpretation of different exteriors.

Well obviously you tell me why I should use EXACTLY that photo to reproduce something I live close by and could photograph myself?
