Reading Sh0ck was really something. The layout, the gfx and the music was so good, and I remember loading the issues over and over again just to enjoy the whole setup.

I remember when i first downloaded this off the boards, damn i loved the overall style of this mag. I would just fire it up and look and listen. The musics in the later issues by Thomas Danko made it even more pleasurable.

Overall i'd say this was one, if not _the_ best mag i've came across.

My favourite magazine of all time.

The elitist flare contained herein seemed to capture an atmosphere like no other; dressed in cool eye candy and with some of the best music for a disk magazine ever written, it is a hard one to put down.

Sh0ck and Cemetery News (Script) inspired me to enter the C64-scene-zine-biz.

The thought i did this almost 16 years ago finally kicked in... it feels like 5 years :/ time really flies... time to buy a motorbike and start the midlife crisis

Oswald: thanks, took me 10 minutes to figure out how these strange tools work, but it's done... uploaded a zip to noname

CBA: f^&*$ker! thanks for the PM, but next time just add the url to your ftp immediately ;P

Stainless steel: the main music in this issue was done by JT, intro music by VV... added credits

Heh, annoying rasterbug in the intro... i guess my monitor was too small at the time

mirage, try googling for star tools, they are for such jobs (parts of the star commander package) if my memory serves, maybe (c?)64copy does the job aswell. btw the mag looks really outfit deluxe indeed.

Thanks for the nice words :)

Why is there no .d64 version of this? both downloads are .lnx files... Is there an easy way to convert from that to .d64?

Indeed!
Actually, when I started with painting, I examined the techniques of pixelling on the graphics from Shock. I was especially fond of Mirage's fairies from Sh0ck #06 and his Shock logo from Sh0ck #08 (started the mag a lot of times just to see that awesome logo). Compyx and Die2 made some really great graphics as well. The Netherlands brought up some of the best graphicians on the C64 scene, their common attributes were/are always the traditional style, careful dithering and anti-aliasing based on clear, colorful, very detailed technique.

Sh0ck was definately one to the magazine scene. Trendsetting by the layout, e.g. proportional fonts were not done before in magazines, the white canvas and awesome graphics by Mirage.
Actually, even this first issue looks more modern than the average magazine of today.
