@Thunder.Bird Yes, a bit:) but I had a lot of fun also:P My intention was to make ultra-silly tune but add also some spice to it:P So, overall it was fun to do. Joe and Digger did an excellent job - thank you guys! David would be proud :)

Surprisingly funny for a shogoon SID. Must've been a pain-in-the-arse to do this, so +1 and KUDOS for that.

Technically great. Not my cup of tea though – those "uh"-s and the overall eurodance feeling gets on my nerves quickly XD

The most un-serious song in the compo sparks the most serious comments. Guys, don’t be so uptight :)
Wojtek - bum bum or not - i like it a lot ;)

Wow guys! I’m truely amazed with such a feedback;) David sends hellos to Csdb! I’m sorry, but he wouldn't let me put this song without his image. You know, He’s the Boss.

Entries should be anonymous so you dont know who you vote for, but votes should be public so you know where to complain. Yes that makes sense :o)

Anonymous entries are imho still good idea at parties - I always second this. Maybe you do recognize every style but it's a totally different thing when hear the name beforehand and instantly some trigger kicks in how to behave and how to evaluate.

BTW, Joe's magic doesn't predetermine an entry to take high spot by default ;) Shogoon's Turrican Autofire tune is probably the best example for that - entry combined great composition, gorgeous art and it still didn't win the audience. (sadly)

Anonymous yes I liked that at Flash Argentina. I bet a few people thought my tune was Uctumi's so I got third. En that was the game plan, not shiting you :D

But anonymous or not.. magic picture wizardry by Joe can always be spot :D

btw and votes on releases should always be public.

@flex
Does anonymous make sense anymore? The styles are so recognizable now that It’s almost instantly obvious who did what... Laxity, Drax, Linus, Jammer, you... to name a few :)

While obviously art is a free matter, in terms of competition dedicated to very specific technique of music, it could be expected to receive a production targeting that impression in its particular field. There's a line between personalized player and fully-fledged animation containing graphics and extensive visual effects. Instead of "Whoa, it's impressive what Shogoon did in 25Hz" many saw the flashy lights and just went "DISCO!".

In the end, there will always be someone arguing to bring his theatre performance troupe to academy of music preselection process and tell these people to finally "progress". Even though both performances would technically contain music, they'd serve different purpose using different means of expression and achieving asymmetrical impression as a result. Similarily to demo competing in music compo, but yay, since it's just for fun and gigs.

Cool tune! And my 2 cents for the ongoing discussion is that music compos could always be anonymous.

About music compos at parties: Let the music compos look something like https://csdb.dk/release/?id=193129. It let's your brain focus on the music, and hey, you get a nice C64 tan too!

Compos on CSDb on the other hand are perfect for doing these kind of mix-ups, if it's that kind of compo of course.

This is an interesting question. For sure it's better to hear music with an attached picture. But in compos this begins to blur the lines between the categories. I am not against change. Quite to opposite actually. I dislike the thinking of how we did it back then is how we should do it today. I don't like that way in anything. Things evolves. But how to set the rules for future compos?
Are music allowed in the graphic compos to give my picture that little edge for it to win? Thats just an example. Things can easily spiral out of control.

The easy way of doing this is just to let the music compos be stricly music. Show some kind of textscreen with a background that the orgas has done. Much like Solskogen or Edison did. That is the most fair and easy solution IMO and removes the discussion who has the nicest SID player/picture, etc which can make people vote more for a certain song.

I don't know the answer. But I am leaning towards let it be music only in compos. For releases like this one, it's great! Keep on doing that.

@joe
the interdisciplinary thing is already there. we call it... the demo. ;)

@Joe: Or maybe this is exactly the reason why the distinction between intro and music categories ever came to place.

That explains why someones compo entries all had nothing but a black screen and no visuals.

I do hope competitions in the future will blend more of the interdisciplinary levels than seen these last 30 years. It would just be so much more fun.

@Joe: More than opinion on art history, it's neuroscientific fact on how visual and animated cues affect our reception when complemented by matching stimuli coming from different senses. If any competition is meant to be just about music, let it be just music presented. I'd say this production provided strong enough opportunity in said matter to raise the more general thought. (Whether people will reflect on it and agree or disagree is just another matter.)

I do think it's about music solely. But then again, did you ever watch someone sneak in a one-filer to a music compo, no?
This scene was quite rigid about that. No images and no code, well maybe a small EQ, well maybe at finest.
This ambivalence; press space to view credits and black screens and what had people stand up with really?
Already back in the 90:ies one sneaked in his tune and a gorgeous image with the tit and the snake, a classic motif back then.

I love the visual culture which has surrounded my way of thinking (esp. regarding music) since my childhood of the 1970: ies
onto this very day. Music Box, MTV, YouTube and all fantastic things from the TV showing music in a new set
(commercials, advertisement, graphic design, animations and cartoons),

taking fine art to be something of yester years as to compete with pop culture of worst monetary kind.
Complementing the classic album covers previous of that. It's in my backbone of this.
society really, so why not just let it all happen ;D Have fun and stay safe!

I think we're slowly crossing the line where music entries relying solely on music to impress the recipent, start to become mini-intros with music. While this isn't technically prohibited by any rules, it raises the question whether music competitions in general shouldn't be about music solely. Would we be equally entertained without the synchronized visuals in the first place?

As for the tune, good-good stuffy stuff. At first, the raw and unpolished sounds turned me off for a while, but the general flow of the music and its vivid use of ornaments and detailed imaginery quickly made it. Thank you, Wojtek.
