Interesting, but not my cuppa tea. The diagonal layout and the twisting just make the lines seem all wrong! ;-)

Is there anyone preferring a mouse to Joystick & Keyboard? I know I do whenever possible (otherwise Joystick)...

I suppose the original building is impressive when standing close to it, the picture doesn't appeal to me much. Technically it's good, but the subject doesn't fill my heart with warmth. (And that's what I need, buckets with love, not concrete)

i'm probably the wrong guy to judge on the technical part behind this one; and just like with the pic of kali - from which i know that harryhausen's creation has been too much of an inspiration for james' version :) - i couldn't savely tell whether it's wired or a handmade duplicate. all i can say is that is that i like the outcome, in my world that's what counts.

Nah, it's wired. I can tell by some of the pixels, and from having seen quite a few converts in my time.

By the way, Joe also pixels with the keyboard? The horror!
I am starting to think I might be the only one who pixels on C64 with a joystick. :D

I'm not sure that I fully agree. Speaking of the end result, my initial comment still stands - its nice and interesting to look at, and the pixels and texturing adds to it.

However, I do think the craft is important and relevant when it comes to gfx on the c64. According to E.S.' remark, there is no lack of skill here, so I have no problems accepting that it is a handjob.

But the question remains: why copy a photo by hand when there are more efficient ways of doing it? Why go all photorealistic when you are not using the photo itself? Unless its an art project with some thoughts behind it, in which case I would love to have the artist share these thoughts.

I have no beef here, I'm just curious.

Well, I do like the picture in itself when speaking of composition, texturing, colour use and so on - except for the horrible signature.

What I don't get is why you did it as a handjob (!) like you said you did. You should have wired it and cleaned it up and you would have had the exact same result. Much more time efficient. ;)

I hope I won't have to spell out my point here.

@Chico: by definition, artists express themselves more than engineers. So your tool is probably cheered at as much as this picture, but it's not expressed... or just believe so, as a consolation ;-)

Yeah, why do rock stars get all the girls when engineers sit at home? ;) It's all about glamour and emotional response, Chico. I'm sure your tool is appreciated, but people are just less likely to get worked up about utilities.

lol ... it´s always funny 4 me .... I work weeks on a tool and there´s no enthusiasm for it ... and (it´s only one of a lot of examples) s.o. made sth like this here and there are lots of positive comments ! but what, please, is this so great with this gfx? I can give no account of it.

Well, I think that the subject of the source is well known without additional emphasise...
The unusual angle, the reduced brightness, the high contrast and the monochrome colorscheme makes it calm, slowly dynamic and deep for me. Whereas the building itself radiates an agile, poppy style with an accent on modernism.
Always loved Joe's C64ish interpretation of different exteriors.
