Somehow I missed both issues, but Ninja's German Font Evaluation woke up my attention to NSR.
It's just like Game Over(view), but dealing with demos instead of games. Mean quality texts! Very fine. Me like. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 21 July 2005
i like the mag system, minimalistic and does what it should do, no more no less. and for once, i even think it was worth reading all the content :) only one thing that seriously sucks - the charset :=P | User Comment Submitted by H.O on 14 July 2005
Two thumbs up, and NSR continues to be one of my favorite disk magazines. Good work guys.

My opinions on this issue are about the same as on the last one. A really nice mag, but still with room for improvements. The magsys sometimes feels more like just another text viewer/noter than anything else. I think more effort should be taken into creating a more structured environment. Other than that, the texts are of a generally high quality, although I did not really appreciate the "chatty" style of having three different editors writing seemingly at random. Puterman's texts are the most worthwile IMO, full of humour and insight.
The addition of more than pure demo coverage worked better than I had expected, and both the mag reviews and Twoflower's article on Kjell were very good, the latter touching me even as I'm sitting here at the computer booth at the Arvika Festival, having snuck VICE onto one of the computers just to read this mag. Because of this I'm not able to comment on the music, as there is no possibility for me to hear it. Sorry, Maktone. | User Comment Submitted by Matt on 14 July 2005

Nice job guys. Good idea to add NIghtlord to the staff. Thanks for an indepth review of our demo. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 14 July 2005
I was a bit bored by the article about mags about mags about mags (opinions about opinions about..) and by writing style containing too much metacomments generally (according to me), but it was still worth reading I think. I look forward to issue three and let's hope some more demos has been released by that time.
...and RESTORE kills it. :) | User Comment Submitted by Slartibartfast on 13 July 2005
Great mag, even improving on the quality of the first issue with the addition of a new staff writer.
Excellent coverage of releases since NSR #1, it seems the crew are really getting into their roles as demo scene reporters.
I don't know what else to write about it , except that it makes me feel good and that it makes me think of robots. ;) |
