Yes, this is a great how-to-start instruction, more verbose and human-centric than my 'straight into it' reference-like manual.
Anyway, I plan to make a tutorial-video in English where I'll show how to use SID-Wizard effectively & optimally in practice :)
I'll post its link here when I'll be ready with it. But for now I concentrate to finalize the full 1.0 version which I plan to release this weekend. It contains many fixes, especially Hard-Restart refinements, and I plan to put a little extra too...

Hi

Of course. I follow the way of JCH editor where the player versions (more or less?) are a different storyline than the editor versions afaik.
So don't be afraid, the SWM workfile format won't change until major release changes, just the sounding differs a bit if the player is improved (or especially between light/medium/full/extra versions).
(btw. I plan some small changes on the SWI instrument format, but it will come much later. )
The version of the SWM files can be read from them and later versions will have the possibility to detect and convert the older versions. But that's a future story just yet... (The default SWM version of the tracker - which it likes the much - can be seen in the upper-right corner of the loader screen, currently it's '1'.)

I'll be glad to hear some tune from you, and don't forget to use the trunk version instead of the RC version (currently at revision 85).
It will come handy if I could use your tunes as example songs after their releases but it's of course your decision. (but I have a sid-to-swm conversion in plan wich will hack your exported tunes with no mercy :):)

But as I said below, I'll finalize the 1.0 pretty soon. Good luck and more free time to me and you too ;)

I take that the file formats are somewhat the same? Only that I have started on a tune in this RC version and would hope it will be compatible with the next one.

Hi Guys. A full release is coming soon. If you followed the svn-trunk at Sourceforge you have probably seen that most of the remaining issues in this beta/RC version are solved and some extras are added. Now some tests (via demotunes) are coming and then I'll release SID-Wizard 1.0 full...hopefully this week...

UPDATE: At sourceforge I finalized the $FF jump-address checking and correcting in the editor, and fixed the exporter to generate dummy pointer for instrument 0 which points to instrument 1. Soci made some rearrangement and optimizations. Some more minor fixes are left.
Soon I'll upload the fixed binaries to CSDB...

One more thing to mention: Ian Coog notified me that instrument 0 should be avoided at the beginning of the tune.
By default (at init) the current player sets instruments of all 3 tracks/channels to 0 which are skipped if nothing is coming on the track.
From musical point of view it didn't cause any issues but using any note in a track where instrument was not selected previously can cause a call to nonexistent instrument 0 which might read bytes outside the player routine what is not recommended for safety reasons (and should be avoided when processing the tune for HVSC)...

[EDIT] PRG/BIN/SID-export (SID-Maker) needs fixing to be acceptable for HVSC. The instrument selection at the very beginning didn't solve the 'outside pointer' issue. But don't be afraid, your saved SWM tunes will be able to load in the next fixed versions so you can compose without problem, just tune-export needs to be fixed a bit. [EDIT]

And an advice if it's not straightforward for some: If you use SID-Wizard via VICE emulation the seamless folder integration is very useful. So when you don't mount a D64 the actual folder (where the sid-wizard .prg/.P00) was started from, VICE cand load/save .P00 files. And SWMconvert.exe can convert between .prg (format for D64) and .P00 (format for VICE). It can make your life much easier if you don't have to copy to/from D64 all the time. Btw. the aim of this this tracker is to use it on real C64 if possible.

As a happy owner of the initial box release, I say I'm grateful for all the hard work, enthusiasm and determination of you to create the most straightforward tracker to date, brother. Despite all the fast/modern workflow and advanced features, it still feels familiar like an old glove in the practice.

I uploaded the worktune called 'pimpmycomm.swm.prg' This is the source of my complete tune from the dentro called 'Pimp My Commodore' shown yesterday at Arok Party. You might take workflow-ideas/instruments from this tune if you wish.
(If you copy this .prg onto the disk or convert it to .P00 with SWMconvert app you can open it from SID-Wizard on real C64 or in VICE. You can test the conversion to SID/XM/MID as well.)

I started a new forum topic where we can discuss further ideas and test reports and possible contributions:

Note: I revised the converter at home via emulator and the relocation address wasn't skipped in SID-Maker (exporter).
I have no idea yet what caused that 'skipping' issue at the presentation at Arok Party...

I really like this editor. It feels modern, fast, well organized and good. Without even reading the manual I was able to make sounds/instruments really easy. The key-mapping feels logic and great, yes so great you keept to the "pro-tracker" map, phew :)
The manual is well written, easy to follow and understand. Now, we need to make music :)

Well done Hermit, please finish those final bits n bytes. The demo tunes sound very promising and I think it's a brave (and I'm sure challenging) choice to use hires bitmap. [EDIT]it looked like bitmap, but I can see it's chars. ;)[/EDIT] Your work (and your forum thread on csdb) has inspired me to work on my own editor, which has some resembling (Goattracker) features like your editor, but I still have a long way to go before it's finished. Kudos.

Well, Guys, not exactly as I planned... I had no time for thorough tests after finalization because here's the chance to spread SID-Wizard in box at Arok Party after my presentation which was held by me at 14:00 and was just finished..

I decided to upload SID-Wizard in its current state. At the presentation there were 2 issues you should be aware of:
1.Don't jump with FF to itself. If you accidentally do you can save the situation with reset, then SYS2061.
2.In the exporter the relocation setting seems to be skipped over, however I didn't touch it in yesterday's fixings. I'll look at it asap.

Apart from some small issues you can use it, today a release will be uploaded with a music which i composed with SID-Wizard on real C64...

Anyway, from now it's open source and you're very welcome to help identify an fix possible bugs...

PS: I couldn't finalize the hardware extension HerMIDI mentioned in the Manual and the presentation. This will soon follow as a hardware release...
