Whole purpose of this converter is to convert to a mode where there is ample processing time left with decent quality results. Only having to switch sprite pointers and Y position every 21 lines or so gives more scope and possibility. (eg. FMV at 320x200 16 colors hires) :-)

Converter uses brute force on the entire screen (when activated) and choses the sprite color combo that generates the least error.
This can be improved by applying brute force to predefined area's of the screen only or to manually select color ranges for sprite colors based on the area that you want to concentrate the quality on

One question, can you improve converter and add batch conversion for group of pictures?

dk: I think it is okay if you ask for a crossplatform version. But, please, skip the preaching part ;)

played around with it a bit... quite fun =) things i'd like to see in upcoming versions:
- correction for non-square pixels (check the "screen dimensions" thread here)
- scaling for the input image
- fast/realtime preview for just the first (top left) pic, to make interactive adjustment of brightness/contrast easier.

Yeah, you're right, I don't care too much, since you stated clearly what you intended to do it's not actually a surprise you got approval! ;-)

I will however continue to ask for crossplatform versions of c64-related tools if that's okay with you, since it is most definately a topic related to the release in question...

Ah, sweet csdb-drama, gotta love it! <:-)

you probably dont care but, i have actually asked the other moderators what to do before doing it, and wouldnt do it if they didnt agree.

In how far is this "unrelated", especially in light of Algo himself saying he's working on a Linux port? Enjoying our moderation powers a bit too much lately, aren't we?

as said numerous times before, please take your crossplatform whining elsewhere, for example here: Mac, Win, Linux etc. . there is no need to point out that you dont have windows in the comments of all and every release. we had to clean up older releases from all that shit already, and we will do it again, promised.

and indeed, the second example pic rocks!

Yes, MUFLI utilises multicolor underlay sprites, but CPU usage is way too high. My main intentions on this particular mode was to have as much processing time available. Hint hint :-} while keeping the quality high. This program runs in Wine under linux. I am working on attempting a linux port

Err, algo: did you miss by any chance that the M in MUFLI stands for Multicolor? ;-)
Anyhow, thanks for another windows-only tool!

I think it really misses an option to retouch the converted pictures in a way (native on c64 would be awesome :D).

i've figured out the best results. 8x8 dither and 3 mostly used colours as sprite colours :)

The extended hires converter which i created some time ago is very basic in comparison (and bugged!). Expect the second version of the Extended Hires (based on MUCSU but mono sprite underlay!)

Another interesting graphics format, thank you! You keep creating them before we can actually use them. :-) I think my favorite format from you so far is extended hi-res, but this seems interesting too.

This program converts images to a new c64 graphic format known as
MUCSU Hires (MUltiColor Sprite Underlay Hires).
It is merely a hiresolution bitmap image with an X expanded
multicolor sprite underlay.
The Hires underlay variant of this mode has been created before
(known as extended hires). After reading a few forum posts
mentioning that the multicolor version of this mode was
unrealistic and would provide too many restrictions, I decided to
produce this converter to prove that this is not the case as well
as wanting to use this particular format for my own production.
