encore: With the -g command? I've only found one Goattracker tune that sounds like it uses it: Popcorn

McMeatLoaf: Sure, the original and the NES-ports were both Japanese (60hz) and since this game runs on NTSC C64's (and plays slower on PAL C64's), tuning it to NTSC (which is no problem with GT2) seemed the right way to go. :)

this game is impossible...!

Weird, the music is made in Goattracker, but tuned to NTSC? :)

and this old clone

finally a professional and beautiful version of this arcade classic!

But "Jungle" and yours are need a bit joystick acrobatics...

finished = just all 4 stages, ehrmm... :)
but Chuck completed all levels, killed the final boss, saved the princess and all this with his monitor turned off!

Submitted by Chris537 on 10 November 2014
It worked on a NTSC Commodore. Had problems when loading from the MSD SD2 but i suspect that from the fast load intact but worked fine on a 1541.

Submitted by chatGPZ on 10 November 2014
what do you mean by "finished" though? completed all 4 levels? or actually played it until level 8(?) when it crashes? =)

Finished? So there is no kill screen in this one. Highly disapointed. :)
User Comment
Submitted by Smasher on 9 November 2014
oh yes!! I've finished it without trainers and without loosing a single life!
no, no, I'm not Chuck Norris... :) The reason is that when I was young (years and kgs ago) I spent a fortune on that coin-op! (or better: my dad did)! :PP
fantastic conversion!

A small remark to the so called cracking scene, within the scene:
Don’t you just find it rather dull, not even snatching the prod out of the actual duplication.
A small race in the evening with discussions on who supplied what? Like former years, well we all know..

The real winner is not the cracking groups, which I find rather dull,
but the enormous effort put behind this game.
I’d say I’ll change my vote in a couple of days or so for those others licking the fingers of the great chicken wing.
This is great and deserves every vote out there!
Thumbs up!

Wonderful! To darn difficult though,
I'll go for those who got the most points, went off first and have suffiecient trainers..

Submitted by Sixteen Plus on 9 November 2014
ooops. Disregard a statement in my first comment two posts down (editing doesn't work here) before anyone corrects me. The first nasty on screen 1 was always able to climb the vine from the first run.

P.S. I'd like to see an Ocean loader style .TAP file of this, preferably with the new Ocean'ish loading music from Zap Fight which IMO should be a standard for many new games, and as Ocean released an official port of original DK, that tune fits the bill perfectly :)

Wow wow wow. Finally had a chance to properly sit down and play it. All I can start off with by saying is that this is a perfect conversion of the arcade original, and with arguably better graphics. The sound is great and very arcade-like too.

Seriously you have outdone yourselves. It's probably one of the most accurate arcade ports on the commie if not the most accurate. The game mechanics are spot-on perfect. It's exactly like playing the arcade original.

I don't know why some feel it's too difficult, I think the difficulty level is spot-on. DKjr is supposed to move slow on one vine but speeds up on two. It didn't take me too long to beat it on Standard difficulty, but then it gets that little bit trickier after that with that first nasty now able to climb the vines. Just like in the arcade.

All that's now missing is the coin-slot. Well done on what is easily the release of the year.

10/10

OK, I tried with True Drive Emulation turned off and the game works in WinVice for me now.

Submitted by mkarcz on 9 November 2014
Did anyone try to run the game in WinVice? It does not seem to work for me. WinVice 1.2, I load "*",8,1 and run. NTSC emulation. It flashes "NTSC DETECTED" but after that nothing happens.

Initial reverse engineering work was done in late 2011. But I only started working on it again for real at the beginning of September this year.
User Comment
Submitted by STE'86 on 8 November 2014
according to the date stamps, serious work on this version started at the beginning of September. But I have graphic files dating back to 2012. These were charset though, in the arcade look and 80% of the graphics were completely redone for this version. when he first got in touch Andreas had a couple of rough working levels to show me what he intended.

WOW... Great ! 10/10 !!! What a conversion. I think this plays better than arcade.

Mr.Sid - is this a fully newely coded conversion or is some other 6502 version used as a basis and then c64 stuff coded around it like with PoP ?

It is really great ! :)
User Comment
Submitted by Burglar on 8 November 2014
awesome! grade A port/conversion. not as mindblowing as PoP, but great nonetheless.

and with Jammer, I wish there were more stages in the original.

great gfx too, clean and faithful

@Jammer: it has 4 stages, and 8 difficulty levels (shown next to the bonus). After that the game continues at the highest difficulty.
Like Donkey Kong, this is all about reaching a high score.

The game has only 4 levels? :(

grasstust: it's by design, grabbing 1 rope climbs slow, grab 2 ropes, climb faster. Probably it's 1st time you play this game =)

Great release! Although I can't stand how slow the monkey climbs... And when climbing it doesn't really look like he's climbing, it looks like he's.... Well, anyway, that's not your fault, awesome port and a straight 10 from me!

Bloomin' fantastic. Best game to be released on C64 this year. So authentic.

Quite difficult, but that's how games used to be...and should be :)

Love it!

Brilliant! However, collision can be sometimes sloppy. Once I was killed even though pixels didn't touch together (game freezes then so I saw two pixels of distance between me and enemy). Other time my monkey fell through the floating platform in second level.
