I'm changing my vote from 1 to a 2. Not because I've grown more fond of it or anything, but because I want to reserve the 1's for obvious crap releases. I have no doubt that this release is intended seriously, and that deserves respect (even if I don't appreciate the art itself).

I really like it a lot too. If you put his work in chronological order i think it definately makes sense, just focusing on anther aspect of the things he did before.
Comparing these works to Mirage's, or probably most other graphicians, would be a mistake though. The c64 is a medium, not a genre.

I feel this picture has much more relevance to the medium unlike some older work. For example i think 'Absence-Distance' was rather a cosmetic conversion of an expressionistic piece. Where Poison manages to do the process of expressionism (hence the name) on the c64 itself. So i guess it was the right step to take. (regardsless of what Poison does :)
I have great respect for this, personally i haven't achieved that. But you're losing crowd with each step taken too quickly :)

Quite amazing picture. I loved it at first sight. And very funny to read the comments. Surprised me to see some people consider this crap.

I guess this is a typical either-you-dislike-or-like piece of work, atleast if comments give any indication. Good review by Ed though, and I share his words although I wouldnt write a novel about it, but thats what Ed does best ;)

"Although I'm grateful you are not hiding your votes like Groepaz did for the "Autumn"."

sorry to disappoint you, but although i have my votes hidden, and i always vote either 1 or 10, i didn't vote for "autumn" at all.

other than that, i agree with mermaid =)

Sorry to spoil all the bad critics’ guys, but I think this picture rocks and the best part of it is that it does not require a crap to understand. ;D

Just look at the cyan and red colours interacting, delicately balanced but giving a slightly off feeling with the dark grey and yellow giving up rise to a interesting contour pattern. The composition tend to create a feeling of movement, focusing on the diagonal from the upper top right downwards to the left, where the grainy pattern enforces that feeling of movement. The splendid variation of pixels grouped in pairs over the image creates a thickness, but is playfully abrupt by the red and dark grey contours.

The ways the colours have been ordered almost give the impression under the influence of a psychedelic drug. This way the picture really shares something to the work of artists such as Vincent van Gogh and the like, where the rough presence of vivid colours and brush strokes seem to be a trade mark. It could also be compared to the work of for instance Newman, Riley, Rothko and the flat area painters, perhaps due to the lack of dithering and the presence of hand. But there is more. There is something else which connects the work to such artists working with happenings and the like under 1960s and up to our time. You tell me guys…

I have for sure never seen anyone doing something like this before on the C64 and rate it among one of the highest pictures recently released, including the work of Mirage, of course.

Been looking at this and trying to work out what i should make of it... eventually decided that it's either A) so arty and/or pretentious that i'll never get it or B) just royally taking the piss and pretending to be arty and/or pretentious - so i gave up...

Joe: I've spent more time trying to figure this one out, than any I have viewing any other release from the X party, so perhaps you accomplished something there. I still like "Piece for Piano" much more...

And Domey: No I don't do drugs! And yes, since the c64 scene has basically been about babes, tits and monsters, zombies and so on: Sure this is the new shit. Like it or not or chose the kinder releases by Mirage/Focus :D

You didn't have the time Deev? Jailbird: Thanks for the 7 and Tao: Go do some demos in another fashion - Iopop imitation doesn't do you good at all, haha. Although I'm grateful you are not hiding your votes like Groepaz did for the "Autumn". /James

It is a fact, that several famous artists used drugs, while trying to break new boundaries in making art.
Well, all I can say, that too much is simply too much.

And here I thought my compo-entry for BFP 2006 was the ugliest picture ever. We have a new winner here. In the quest for postmodernism, Joe's crossed the thin line between art and crap.

Edit: seems this wasn't a compo-entry, so my record still stand =)
