I think I actually read about this in that Chicago Manual of Style that was mentioned at that wikipedia page. At least the second part of my post seems correct (as in: not a matter of choice). The part about plural nouns. |

Today's English lesson: The proper way to write the title of this one would be:
Linus' Escape
This is the way you write when names ends with an "s" already. I know, because my name is Mats! Similarly, if there is a plural "s" at the end of a noun (e.g. when you have not just one teacher but many teacherS), and want to add genitive on top of that, you would do the same kind of thing. So you would write:
teachers' preferences
Homework until next time: Figure out how to apply these rules in the case of names like "Alice", that end with an "s" sound-wise, but are not spelled with an "s" at the end of the word. |
