How have I missed this?! Guess, I know how I'll spend the rest of the evening. | User Comment Submitted by TheRealWanderer on 3 June 2024
V1.1b is online:
High score input possible with joystick and keyboard. Left/right = forward and back in the input line. Up/down selection of the letter. Fire button = end of input.
At the same time, input is still possible via keyboard.
The control configuration can be done via the bottom entry in the main menu. | User Comment Submitted by Courage on 9 January 2024
The new firmware for the WiC64 has just been released. Tetris Recoded-Highscores can now be saved online worldwide. The prerequisite is the registration in the WiC64 portal. More information at www.wic64.com.
Use either the WiC64 module or the WiC64 emulation in VICE (v3.8+). | User Comment Submitted by PARALAX on 18 December 2023 User Comment Submitted by KAL_123 on 16 December 2023
@The Real Wanderer, of course i have and i also tried around with this "back (reload highscores)" function too. But my scores are not there, after i reload the game. Does this work for you? And if yes, what must i do, that it works? Or do i need a WIC64 for this? By the way, best would be, when scores were saved automatically and reloaded automatically too, if you ask me.
Sounds good with this wip-version and the re-assigning. | User Comment Submitted by TheRealWanderer on 15 December 2023
In our WIP version, reassigning UP, Down and Fire-2 works well.
The new assignments are also saved to disk and loaded at startup.
@KAL_123: Are the scores actually saved? Have you checked that “Disk Load/Save” is set to "on"? | User Comment Submitted by KAL_123 on 14 December 2023
Highscore-saving seems to make problems too, i found out. When the game is reloaded, the previously achieved score, can no longer be found in the highscore-list. Then we would have two remaining points for a possible v1.1 version:
(1) fixing the score-saving problem
(2) a selection-option for the assignment of "Up" (direction) should be added to the game-menue, so that the players can switch there, between this "ultrafast drop" and "turn pieces counterclockwise". Or alternatively, an option in the menue, that would simply switch the functions of "Fire-2" with "Up", so that "Up" can rotate the falling pieces counterclockwise and "Fire-2" makes the ultrafast drop. That would be a clear advantage over now, especially for users of 1-button-controllers (the majority of players), because the ultrafast-drop is not really needed, while "turning pieces in two directions" is needed, for better playability. | User Comment Submitted by Courage on 13 December 2023
Due to the many comments regarding the great original soundtrack by Wally Beben, we have now checked again whether an ingame use is possible. Due to the digis used in the music track, which take up about 80% of the available raster time. We also have a raster split in the menu and ingame. Either there is flickering or the digis sound wonky. So it is unfortunately not possible to listen to this great tune while playing this new version. We are very sorry about that! We hope you enjoy it anyway. | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 4 December 2023
Great achievement with some nice tunes! | User Comment Submitted by GI-Joe on 4 December 2023
awesome work in that short time. I like the musics taken from different platforms. Now i want to score over the WIC64-server ;) | User Comment Submitted by KAL_123 on 4 December 2023
Nice, that the 2nd-Firebutton can already be used, to turn the falling pieces counterclockwise. I hadn't seen this before. This is good, but not many controllers have Fire-2.
Therefore i would still like to suggest, that you add a selection-option for the assignment of "Up" (direction) in the game-menue, so that the players can switch there, between this "ultrafast drop" and "turn pieces counterclockwise". This would have the great advantage, that the players could then turn the pieces in both directions, with any normal 1-button-controller too.
And i am sure, alot players also don't really need two functions, for fast-dropping the pieces ("up" and "down" at the moment). The slightly slower drop on "down", will certainly be sufficient for most people, if they could instead rotate the pieces in two directions, with any normal 1-button-controller, which is more important than two fast-drop-methods. | User Comment Submitted by Paladin on 4 December 2023 User Comment Submitted by Courage on 3 December 2023
Thanks for the constructive criticism and the good suggestions. I don't want to rule out that these won't be used again in an improved version at some point ;)
It is indeed a pity that the great Wally Beben tune is not selectable ingame. Unfortunately, the digis in the piece of music really messed up the timing, so we had to do without it. It's certainly not impossible, but changes to the sound play routine are probably necessary. This release was created within 6 weeks (as mentioned in the note, we started completely from scratch code-wise) and finished very shortly before the compo. Possibly with more time some decisions would have been different. But sometimes a little time pressure is also very practical to get off your arse. :D | User Comment Submitted by www.gb64.com on 3 December 2023
Thumbs up! Finally time to play Tetris again!
Improvement suggestion for version 1.1:
A controls customization menu where people can configure what joy button/key to use for fast drop, rotate, etc. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 3 December 2023
Quote:The game is not an imitation
The original Mirrorsoft one is though, it plays very different to GB Tetris.
Quote:but is based in many ways on the official Tetris guideline from 2009.
Its better than the Mirrorsoft release, indeed. Still feels too easy and different though. Guess i played too much GB Tetris back then :) | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 3 December 2023 User Comment Submitted by daddlerTL on 3 December 2023
Nice version, way better than the original with improved graphics, playability, a lot of options and nice music :)
The game runs from Easyflash using the disk2easyflash tool (no highscroe saving of course).
A nice addition would be to allow entering the name in the high score table using the joystick to make the game fully compatible to the C64GS and arcade machines. | User Comment Submitted by mankeli on 3 December 2023
Well feels like a good version, but why oh why I can't have the Wally Beben's original music for the bgm.. | User Comment Submitted by St0rmfr0nt on 3 December 2023
All in all a very nice version including High-Score Saver. @GPZ: If you had looked at this before posting, there would be nothing in question. Great work, TRW. | User Comment Submitted by TheRealWanderer on 3 December 2023
The game is not an imitation, but is based in many ways on the official Tetris guideline from 2009.
The rules define Joy Up for hard drop, Joy Down for soft drop and the Korobeiniki Music as default Soundtrack.
The 2nd fire button is naturally supported and rotates the tetromino in the opposite direction to the 1st fire button.

So is this modelled after the one and only Tetris now, or still a rather dull imitation? | User Comment Submitted by KAL_123 on 3 December 2023
Nice, it plays well. Only one thing, I would have made differently. Steering "up" shouldn't put the parts down superfast, but turn them in the other direction (counterclockwise) instead. Then the user could turn the pieces in both directions and playability would be perfect. There are also controller-adapters, that have "up" on a button. And also Fire-2 could be integrated for counterclockwise turning, additionally to "up". | User Comment Submitted by TheRealWanderer on 2 December 2023
@Wile Coyote: We implemented a completely different leveling and scoring.
Scores are only good over 100,000 points ;)
I think that really good players could reach scores in the high 6-digit, eventually in the 7-digit range. | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 2 December 2023
Good work!
Somehow seems easyier than the original.
On my 1st try the game went on for quite a while, reaching Level 5 and scoring 24612 ^_^ | User Comment Submitted by Nordischsound on 2 December 2023
@Oswald, down is the Standard softdrop like in all other Versions, there is no need to use the optional harddrop with the up key | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 2 December 2023
the control scheme drives me crazy, why not down to drop the items? :) | User Comment Submitted by LightSide on 2 December 2023
Wow, what a fantastic achievement! Congrats to Courage & Team. | User Comment Submitted by Angel of Death on 2 December 2023
I had this plan for years and even made a start on it but, you know, things'n life'n stuff...
But nice to see that someone had the same idea. Thanks a lot guys!
(just too bad I can't have the original music during playing :( ) | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 2 December 2023
really fun to play, great job! |
