Sure, I can do SCPU testing for you, Monte! Have a good time on the island (why do I think of Newcomer?). Been there with my wife last year!

@Monte: Not animated, but rendered in a "smart" way and only shows 4 iterations at the same time. If you look at a it you'll eventually come to the conclusion that there are only 2^n different lines of gfx data (n=nbr of iterations). So my routine x-scales 2^4 different gfx lines each frame and selects among them to build up the pattern. By using chars for three of the iterations and sprites for the fouth I could reduce the number of lines to 2^3 + 2^1 = 10. Realizing that both layers contains one setup of all filled lines there are only actually 8 lines to stretch and position each frame. So, that made it possible for me too choose position and zoom-factor freely, but limited to 4 iterations visible each time.

Was this really realtime? I thought the fractal in Andropolis was just an animation calculated such, that a three times magnified frame coincides with the original frame?
Anyway, i'm glad about yours positive resonance, although my proggy was written completely in C and is therefore a little bit slow;(
