no, joysticks are not connected to POTY at all - its really checking the mouse :)

To skip parts, and pages in the info file, use alt-q in vice (grab mouse events) as it reads $d41a (POTY) and expects it to be != $ff
I guess on real C64 you have to plug/unplug joystick on port 1 to get the same result.
