Perhaps some of the unknown guys who did these tunes later made tunes in COMPUTE!'s Gazette Sidplayer.

How they ended up in Europe? Ripped from PD libraries, downloaded from BBSes, spread the usual way (tape/disk) etc?

Guess: Most if not all are from NTSC territory. Probably spread through BBS/PD libraries. No credits due to copyright reasons, uploaded on local BBS where everybody knew each other (anonymity not intended, but credits not known explicitly), credits lost along the way when the tune was spread etc.
