@JSL: Some advice from me: ratings are... vastly overrated. When it comes to art, they are absolutely irrelevant. Ignore them, don't worry about them. I know human nature tempts us to think "Piece A got rated 7, piece B got rated 5, so piece A must be better than piece B". Resist that temptation, as such statements just aren't true.

Mirage, thanks a lot for the great constructive criticism!

JSL, Mirage rightfully focused on one of the fundamentals of drawing (I had mentioned it as well in another message to you, if you remember): shapes.
Let me add one or two more closely related: volumes and lighting. The world isn't made of pattern-filled outlines, but of solids. "Think in solids" and keep constantly in mind where the light sources are and how they hit the surfaces of the solids. Start with a 1-color silouhette, then add 1-color shadows and 1-color highlights: this will make miracles ;)

Doing what he loves, while constantly complaining and whining about the low votes everywhere and any time he can - Doesn't sound much like love to me.

And since he's decided to keep spamming the site, I might as well try to offer some humble, friendly advice as best as I can, in the hope he'll learn something and actually improve.

JSL: It's not about the whiskers, forget about the whiskers. It's about those first 5 minutes when you start drawing and you don't get the basic shapes right. Please spend 15 minutes instead of 5 at that point.

You started off with something like this for this picture, and then immediately started colouring the rest:

That might just as well have been the start of a panda-picture, for all I know.

Next time try to get the basic shapes right first before you start with anything else (excuse the sloppy anti-aliasing, this was a rush-job):

I don't care if you cheat the first couple of times and use overlay layers to paint over the original or anything like that - this is about _learning_ to see shapes. Don't simply assume a cat's eye is an oval like you've done - look at the eye, notice that it's not really 'just' an oval, it's got way more different shapes than just an oval.

Also, please listen to what saimo suggested and post progress pictures on Pixelation. They're a most helpful bunch.

And then, instead of uploading the 300+ pictures you've saved up, upload a new one where you've tried this instead, perhaps? Maybe? Pretty please with sugar on top?

JSL, let me reiterate my suggestion: why don't you post this picture to Pixelation and work on it according to the advices you'll be given? You'll learn what doesn't work, you'll improve the piece and your skills and, once back here, you'll also get higher votes.
Stop wondering/guessing how good you are, be brave: let others expose your weaknesses and work hard to eliminate them.

I am just wondering.. If some other graphician came with this cat, would he got as well 3x a 3 as vote, or because he is an more talented graphician he would score higher.. Somehow I am thinking I am a worse graphician, so therefrom the downvotes. OkayOkay, no Whiskers. Means downvotes. :)

Ofcourse I stood still to the fact that there are no visible Whiskers to be seen, I could have added them, but I left them out.. It is still a cat, no? :)
