Though it's hard to believe I was not a-
ware of 6R6's powerful SIDPlay64 when I
started coding this more than a year ago
and when I learned about Glen's tool, I
really thought more than once to stop
this project immediately, for who am I
with my 5 years ASM experience to even
try to provide an alternative to a piece
of brilliant software developed by a
skilled musician and coder like 6RG?

However, I was already too absorbed by
to stop and thus continued. Basically
I wanted to code sth customized for my
very own personal needs. Then again, I
showed the software on parties and was
asked to release it. Even 6R6 himself
(whose tool is still superior in more
than one respect, mainly becaus of self-
relocating which I thought about and can
imagine for future projects) encouraged
me to share my player(and may it just to
have one more around).

Why did it take so long? Well, this was
a project which at several stages reach-
ed a point where thought it won't get
any better. But whenever I felt almost
like releasing at least some beta, I had
either more ideas which I wanted to im-
plement. This forced me to optimize the
code in order to find the necessary RAM
and fix whatsoever new issues resulting
from the new features.Inbetween, I work-
ed on various other projects, so there
were also periods where I did nothing at
all for PlayEm64 which makes it harder
for me to dive into my own twisted code
again. In March 2014 finally the fun part
could begin: arranging a few sample col-
lections, quite a a few evenings were
spent browsing, selecting and sometimes
relocating or even hacking my favourite
tunes.

Anway, here it is. Use and enjoy at own
risk if you like. Since I hardly looked
into 6RG's code but mainly saw myself as
main target group, this one's rather
different. Give it a try, even if the
controls and the additional options may
seem weird at the beginning and might
need getting used to.

Countless people on forums and in real
life helped me doing this by opening my
eyes for fundamental knowledge about C64
in general or .SID files in particular.
To avoid forgetting anybody, I simply
say thanks to you-know-who-you-are in my
groups ASC/BCC/MYD! and on forum64,CSDb,
Codebase etc.

After saying thanks to all the musicians
of the past, the present and the future
without whom I probably would never ever
have come back to C=64 and of course to
HVSC without whom hardly anything like
this project would have been possible,
I'd like to tell you about tools which I
used for creating this and which you may
want to use if you want to use PlayEm64
in the most interactive way.

Sidplay2/w (C)Adam Lorentzon
Simply my favourite .SID-Player on PC
because of its simplicity. Was the
role model for what I wanted to cre-
ate on C64.
Sidreloc (C)Linus Akesson
Not only does this powerful tool help
you to relocate .SIDs really easily
which is essential to overcome FILE
RESTRICTIONS(see below), you can also
learn a lot about .SID files on the
official homepage.
Exomizer (C)Zagon
Still my first choice cruncher since
the crunching rate is unsurpassed as
far as I know and the handling is so
foolproof.
ACME (C)Marco Baye
Great Crossassembler without which I
might never have dared trying coding
ASM.
Notepad++ (C)DonHo
Excellent and versatile Editor for
Win.
DirMaster (C)THEWIZ
Awesome tool to handle disk images of
any meaningful type on Win.

Moreover, I recommend the following web
sites which helped me boost my skills:
c64-wiki.de
codebase64.org
forum64.de
oxyron.de
