@eLK: I suppose the original png must adhere to the koala restrictions = not more than 4 colors in each 8x8 char of the picture. ...or do I misunderstand your question? The message also seems to say that the error is encountered in char 128 of the picture.

was looking into a simple little project to get my feet wet with Go (golang.org), so here it is, a 320x200 image to koala converter.

the tarball contains source and executables for linux, windows and darwin/apple.
