"composTition" is a little hard imho

can't decide if I like or hate this, so it's probably great art!

Compostition is some very interesting "jazzy" style, but as other pointed out already: it suffers from the harsh sounds. Makes it really hard to love. If I imagine this played softly with real instruments instead it would be ace :-)

I like it :-) ... It is strange and it is almost like a live jazz session to me. Really cool that you created this one. I was up at a cabin on the mountain this weekend and we looked at alot of demos and also our own demos... it has to be nailed down to doing something one love to do. Then the ranx and placement of whatever one create do not matter... in 20 years it is all different. For me personally this a stayer in a compo that hold rules of doing something beside all mainstream and to be original and well... just something different than a normal tune... I like this one very much, it is so strange and I can imagine them people live just jamming away.

It's also not nice to downvote a production you just don't like as if it doesn't have to do anything with the competition it was made for.

that's how it works: if people don't like it, you get a low vote. what did you expect? all 10s? all these years later and people still don't understand this simple process. people can vote however they like. insulting people as you did in your previous post will get you nowhere :)

sounds like random patterns that went out of sync too me. sorry. no.

Yeah, well - speaking about nice. It's also not nice to downvote a production you just don't like as if it doesn't have to do anything with the competition it was made for.

But you know what? I was indeed rude and therefore I say: Sorry, Compyx. I take back my insult. I hope you accept my apology.

"Your life must be utterly pathetic" that's not nice, everyone is entitled to give their vote based on their perception, and you know what? You might have made a "technical" masterpiece in the eyes/ears of some other musicians, but you IMHO forgot to put some actual pleasant music in this. For my taste this is only noise. And here's my 1 meaning awful. Have a nice day.

Yeah i was gonna write, it feels also like 10/4 (cause of phrasing), but it's not clear, cause it's not a real band playing where you can hear accents and how the rhytm has been devided.

@Shogoon: Actually there are different polyrythms going on. The first part is in 5/4 (10/4 to be exact), drums and bass that is, whereas the lead dubs that mostly in 4/4 feeling. The second, slower part, as well as the "drum solo" and the following bridge are in 5½/4. I really love to do 5/4 and solo over that in a different rhythm/phrasing. The fact that you felt it as 4/4 tells me that the mindfuck at least somewhat worked. :D

Sounds like straight 4/4 to me, but with a lot of syncopation and shuffle rhytm. Very nice motives and bluesy lazy improvisation:P. Little bit messy:P

I did a balancing vote (-1 for the sounds, obviously). I hope we get to hear a smoother version of this, maybe targeted for the 8580 chip. This song deserves to be finished in a proper way!

Yes, the sounds are also my biggest woe in this tune. I didn't have much time on my hands at all and especially the instruments aren't worked out and polished, yet. Deadlines are cruel. :D

I also tried a balancing act to make the lead sound reasonably decent in both, 6581 and 8580 - yet I failed with this task. The original tune was composed on a 6581 AR and the filter is just so different from the other revisions, not to speak about the grave differences to the 8580. I revised the lead to sound somewhat ok'ish overall.

In the meantime I tested the tune on 5 different C64 computers and the filtered leads sound different on each single one. The SID chip really is plainly astonishing. Such diversity, individuality and vibrancy. It's like a living thing! :) But that's also why I love this machine and the nostalgia of working on on old hardware; and of course for the love for (obscure) music.

Anyways, thanks for your comments, guys! Really appreciated! Oh, and to the downvoter: Your life must be utterly pathetic if you donate your time to this little wonderful C64 universe bubble of nostalgia and then find it necessary to stir up some inside drama and vote a 3 (lol) for a legit entry of a competition even more niche. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's underrated already, that's just too bad. It's really great. Ah well, universe still spins.

Makes me dizzy thinking how much work must have gone to this. And not just work, also skills. Still, I'm with Joe, the soundset is pretty harsh. Is there a technical reason for that or is it a matter of choice? For me, that's the only minus, everything else is just great.
