if you mean that copy whatever on text screen to bitmap mode; yes that's possible.
I think in the past(about 23 years ago) I wrote a little
assembly routine which was doing the exact thing(copy text to
bitmap).
it can be a nice idea for double buffering to create a fast 3d game engine for c64 :).

I used combination of C and Assembly, and now I am developing a 80x50 routines for further projects.currently plot line and circle are completed.
