yes, in the first place they are for protecting the users that care about stuff beeing added to the database properly. and that includes screenshots which show an actual c64 screen :)

Uhh? Someone said HCL?

.. i put up what? I put up the demo here on CSdb because we all use to :). I put up the IFLI-pic because that's where the demo got it's name from.

It's still in the "demo"-category, not "graphics".. It's an executable file, a "demo".. things will move on the screen.. but only if you download the file and run it, the screendump will not move. Ok, we'll wait and see :).

You crazy people, stop equalizing the demo with the damn screenshot, once and for all!
And who put that friggin thing here anyway, was that you, HCL? :)

@Ed: you didn't hurt my feelings, I was just wondering about this picture's relation to a specific style of Cyclone. As apart from knowing and respecting his works, actually I was never a big fan, or at least never felt like he took any effect on me. All the more Made, Danny, Facet, Peechy, Fade One, Jamon, RWA, Louie, Boo, Cougar and RA ofcourse... Anyhow, this is not the only picture in this demo, all the more, this picture _isn't_ the demo ;D I hope the first logo is clearly RA, right? :D

@Mermaid: sorry Vanja, of course I know you did non-toony stuff, exempli gratia I was always a very big admirer of your Schiffer portray from Skyhigh. I mean, you are most known for you beautiful cartoon styled graphics... However, it was Ed who brought up your name so blame him! ;D

Edit: furthermore, Mermaid's main graphical objects are mostly caricatures (count here the last 3-4 years), whilst this is a semi-realistic motive (i.e. not too unnatural). I know that most toons on C64 belong to Vanja, but that seems to me like another generalized look on C64 graphics styles.

"it's a toony stuff so I get the Mermaid-part"

Hey! I resemble that remark!!!1!! :(
I've done, like, umm, non cartoony stuff too...

Jailbird,
Personally my experience with the Amiga scene dates back to the demo- and game industry before the scene made graphics looking like anything near the same technique of the background of this picture. But I see your point.

Cyclone was just a personal reference point, nothing more, as you seem to have it. His diagonal style developed throughout the years and I personally never saw many other artists doing the same thing.

You have made me convinced that there were other sources of inspiration and I am sorry if I hurt your feelings with my quick references.

Okay, it's a toony stuff so I get the Mermaid-part, but where's Cyclone in this picture? The fuzzy background? 90% of Amiga pixelgraphicians did that before Cyclone. The outlines? 90% of Amiga pixelgraphicians did that before Cyclone. The dithering? 90% of Amiga pixelgraphicians did that before Cyclone.
I absolutely admit I was influenced by Amiga graphicians, mainly RA in this case... But equalizing Amiga pixelgraphics with Cyclone is like saying every non-C64, but C64-alike picture which features a pretty girl infront a funky background looks like Mirage's work.

...Personally my first impression was: "Wow! Mermaid and Cyclone merged into one... " ;D

Non-Amiga people usually connect old-school styled Amiga pixelling with Cyclone, whilst his works were obviously influenced by RA.

RA.

HCL: the case is, that as always you made it look too easy :) I've checked the 4x4 routines but those are the most straightforward, tho very well done.

Have watched this one one too many times now :)

One of my all time favorites... nice music, nice gfx (like that first booze logo best), nice code (i've never done my homework ;)

If it was called 'smart girls love rubiks cubes' i would have loved it even more :)

Beautiful! I prefer this over Tsunami for sure. Hard coded parts with delightful music and gfx.
Nice to see JB finally doing serious part of the gfx work in a BD release.

@HCL: hahaha. :D At the compo I was REALLY amazed because since it was a HCL/Dane release I automatically assumed all pictures were in XFLI so I sat the quite numb wondering how the fuck you guys added plasmas left of those "XFLI" piccies. :D But then iopop told me it wasn't XFLI so I kinda calmed down abit. Anyway, it's a very nice release, good work!

Not one single comment from a technical aspect so far, better give you some hints.

* FLD-logo in sideborder, done in 198x? Check.

* 4x4-shit with a sort of transparent light-map plasma. Also in the leftmost 3 chars. Check.

* IFLI-stretcher, done in 199x but often with bugs, and never with such a cool picture!!

* Sprite-zoomer over bitmap. Not hard but still world-first. Check.

* 4x4-shit with transparent light-map pic-rotator. This time the chick is to the left :). Check.

* DXYCP scroll in sideborder. Including the usual sprite-bugs since this is a true party release. Check.

Go do your homework! ;)

wow, the pic on the screenshot has definitely a unique style! I love it.

(a bit later)
ok, now I've watched the demo. All my thumbs up! This is how a c64 demo should look and sound in 2005. Briliant.

Something a bit less serious from Booze this time, but a very good demo no less.
