Happy to see your enthusiasm here :) I will hopefully come back to this when the time is right.

I was thinking of fading-in the text (with ghosting), so if you scroll too fast it would not be a problem. And the charmode is pure MCOL, not super exciting but still something, at least easy to convert any graphics.

CF suggested to use a light pen to do an on-screen touch-like scrolling – that would be fun.

I've also mocked up a browser based editor, so you could place any asset anywhere and get the text to wrap around it.

Nice one, Digger! Now keep the promise to be back in full effect ;)

Finishing this mag engine with scrolling @50Hz while realtime rendering the incoming text/gfx will for sure be hard, but doable I think. Otoh, getting enough gfx in this special mode could become a real challenge... might need some kind of converter to reach the goal of a finished mag.

In either case: I'm eagerly looking forward to the first mag with this engine!

Great proof of concept! Hope to see a full diskmag using it one day. I imagine it can be a struggle to get people to contribute graphics using multicolor char mode, not many sceners are creating stuff with that, although Veto has shown how much cool stuff you can do with it. I prefer the dark background - white isn't easy on the eyes on a modern monitor, and even worse on a good old CRT.

We've now seen the future. Love the dark-themed version. If this will turn into a finished mag-like tool with multi-pages + tune added, I'll start writing long letters to my friends on 5¼ floppies again :)

Great concept! Definitely you should develop this further, see what’s possible in a full mag environment.

Brilliant stuff.

@Oswald: I was thinking three ways, either prebuffer the char lines for before/after, or use fading, or use prerolled font. Or all 3 together ;-)
The speed can be limited as well, no one needs to scroll like crazy, it’s not a freaking phone!

great idea, two things, will any routine be able to print new lines this fast ? 8frame per new line at 50fps scrolling, secondly it feels very jittery but maybe just its my 60hz screen vs 50fps?

Implementing this routine with that char height + the incredible way of reading by swiping (scrolling) the screen,
just as with any modern format would be simply amazing and really up to date!

Released in response to the latest Propaganda mag to demo what would be possible with charmode.
