As the demo consists of more than this picture, I also want to point out the very (back in '87) impressive 'knocking door' introduction which also has great graphics.

I agree with Veto, Ste and with d0c, and if you overlay the presented examples with the original c64 copy, you'll see the artists struggle against angles and proportions. Eyes, brain and hand.
Carrion: Perhaps, the picture lacks some depth (in a way) and color. But in those days the programs didn't let you optimize without pain and suffer, probably not the VIC either making some combinations climb to hell right away (imagine purple+green or why not cyan+lt red on an old set), we are lucky to have a grid telling when to stop. And besides I guess it's us growing up watching all those close to 3 colored images always has thought about changing them as quickly and often as possible (at least that's what I heard from Krill some years back) :)
As for the "fast" digital convertions made here in the thread, I guess there would be plenty of work to make them look any good. And what's the point really in doing other peoples images (Me included). We have seen that already far beyond the 90:ies...

THIS is the actual painting its taken from. it was not wired from the amiga pic. there is in fact MORE detail in the c64 version of the pic.and theres enuf subtle differences in shape between all the versions for me to say "It's not wired"

they had b/w scanners back in the days so my guess is that all got scanned then converted and allot of after work was done... like they done with cyborg pic from 87.. Cyborg Pic but i dont mind its cool gfx and very good done anyway. | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 10 August 2010
Even if it's partly wired, it must have recieved shitloads of afterwork. Because as Steve pointed out, in '87 the tools to wire weren't THAT good :-D

Really nice graphics. Though i feel the 'dragon' is a bit off style-wise. (also looks a bit odd).
@STE, infact - Timanthes was released in 2006. Iconic graphics have been created throughout the decades. Even using a work environment comparable to 1987. You might want to check Hein's gfx for Dutch Beeze - that's a HUGE milestone in my book. | User Comment Submitted by v3to on 10 August 2010

more accurately, its a c64 version of a peice of Roger Dean artwork, whose stuff Psygnosis used to licence for their game covers.
a very slick looking piece too. looks wired, but almost certainly isnt, simply because in 87 wiring never looked THAT good to a 64 :)
and i do hope the "too good to be '87" was a wind up. we did manage to draw stuff in 87 you know. '87 saw some of the most iconic c64 art ever produced. even tho we didnt have timanthes. | User Comment Submitted by Rough on 9 August 2010
