Royal Trux, Platinum Tips + Ice Cream arrived on my doorstep roughly two weeks into March 2023. The album represents the first vinyl record I have purchased in a long long time. The wild cover art with its claws, tickled my imagination, and took my mind of the suffering (more on that later).

The vinyl ships with a small piece of card that contains a secret code that can be entered into the dominorecordco website. It allows the user to download a choice of zip files containing either mp3 or wav files of all the tracks contained on Platinum Tips + Ice Cream

The 4 weeks spanning the end of February beginning of March 2023 were filled with tooth ache. Next level tooth ache that could not be combated using over the counter painkillers. Zapain, prescribed by my doctor, was all that was available. It did the trick, it killed the pain for up to 4 hours at a time. The NHS dentist situation is dire. A private dentist was the only option. 4 weeks came and passed, and the tooth in question was extracted. With the source of pain removed, i could stop taking the Zapain.

Stopping taking Zapain, which contains codeine, comes at a price. The side effects i suffered from included: runny nose, difficulty sleeping, irritability, anxiousness. and worst of all, intense aching. Aching of the eyes, mind and gums. The urge to pop another Zapain to erase the side effects is strong.

Going cold turkey was tough. I found a way to ease the suffering. Ice cream, large bars of milk chocolate, preferably containing whole nuts, and booze. Large bottles of larger to be precise. Tiger, Cobra, and Beck’s being the most popular. I was back and forth to the local Spar-shop feeling like junkie.

On the night in question, when I decided to convert the cover art to Platinum Tips + Ice Cream, I was 5 bottles in. I had just opened the 6th bottle of Tiger. I unzipped the Platinum Tips + Ice Cream wav folder only to discover it included a jpg of the cover art to Platinum Tips + Ice Cream. In the moment, the clear moment, I could not resist resizing the jpg height to 200 pixels, and running the saved bmp file though the Mufflon converter. Obviously detail was lost due to the lower size and color resolution, but i quite liked that I was looking at.

The next challenge, taking into account the 5+ bottles of Tiger, was to enter the Command Prompt and attempt to enter all that was required to make the nufli.prg you see uploaded to CSDb. It took a number of attempts, i can tell you. I got there eventually. In the moment, it felt like quite an achievement.

On the subject of Royal Trux. Their best album, to me atleast, is the album Thank You
A Night to Remember, Map of the City, The Sewers of Mars, Shadow of the Wasp all sound wonderful!
