the graphics in this release is seemingly impossible: the left hand side of the picture is single-color petscii graphics in text mode. the right hand side of the picture is multi-color bitmap.

there is no way that single-color text-mode and multi-color bitmap-mode can coexist like that. while it is possible to split $d011 in the middle of the screen (see e.g. Ice Cream Castle ), this can only be done on 7 of the 8 rasterlines of each character. the badline is impossible to split. it is possible to disable badlines, by doing a write to $d011 at cycle 56 of the 7th rasterline of each character, but then there is no way to get those amounts of colors into the picture. also, such a split would not be clean: it would span at least 4 characters, since we would need two memory writes (both $d011 and $d016). in Ice Cream Castle this is avoided by using only white color on the text side, which makes the left-hand side be single-color without the need to split $d016.

the first one to notice the "impossibility" of the picture in this release was redcrab who had been doing combined petscii and bitmap back in 2014 with Museum of Strange . redcrab's picture is done in mufli mode to allow combining petscii, hires and multi-color.

in this release, the petscii-and-bitmap combo is faked in a different way: the entire picture is hires bitmap, and the right side of the picture is overlaid with black sprites. this provides a third black color, but except for the black color, it still retains the strict 2-color-per-character limitation of the hires bitmap mode. but Soya was able to draw the picture so that the right hand side looks like proper multicolor and without these weird limitations being visible. the highly trained eyes of redcrab and Walt spotted the trick immediately though :)
