I think there was something similar in Sweden, at least back in the 1980:ies? Drunkards drank "T-Röd" (at least that was the view): A form of denaturated ethanol, sometimes mixed with heavier propanol. It was sold in usual stores, but was of course meant for other uses (cleaning, anti-cold capacities and for storm kitchen fuel). They had to mix in emetics, but well.. Still sold, but in closed cabinets.

| Well... putting jokes aside "Denaturat" - denatured alcohol - in Poland is made from ethanol, not methanol, because despite its "bitter taste" :D some ppl supposedly do drink it directly or after de-bittering somehow. |
