Trivia Info

A few years ago I was exercising at classicistic drawing and one of my choices was the head of that (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemision_Bronze) iconic bronze statue. After finishing a good number of drawings my brain warned me that it was about to explode unless I did something about it. So, I went berserk at the statue’s head, even using inks and markers to avoid getting into any ‘let’s make some corrections’ mood. I wanted the result to be raw and exciting much like my mood was at the point.

Years passed and that idea to bring that drawing to the screen became interesting. The small resolution posed a challenge on its own, as I’d have to settle with losing most of the volumes of the organic & expressive drawings. During the process I decided to stylize parts of the image so as to make them seem more sensible within a pixel illustration but at the same time I felt I needed to try and retain the raw feeling of the conversion on other parts.

I went on with changing/moving certain parts (especially the fingers, as they had to serve as a reason for turning the image to landscape).

I did the CPC version first, because I wanted to try the 'exotic' EGX mode, which allows the per every line change of mode between mode 1 and mode 0 (roughly equivalent to hires and multicolour respectively). Then took the pic to the C64 where initially I tried to go for hires, but felt it was too much (and even more so since I haven't worked with C64 hires before). In the end, multicolour with the extention to sideborders worked fine. :)
