I have been recently toying around with this effect and it works on my 1084S. I think it has nothing to do with the monitor but with the pal signal. You get different colours depending on what is on odd or even because the amount of colour spreading to the next line does not result in a totally medium mix of the 2 colours. Deekay: weird I have had a Handic monitor, a 1084 and some other models (a 109x...) and loads of TV-sets. For some reason all these have been configured to show the same result ie. just as you describe it: it all depends on what color you start with. ;D

I know exactly what effect you are talking about... Lemme guess: You have a Philips monitor?
the problem is: This effect does not work on 1084s or 1901s.. Alteast not the ones I tried!
Sure, the color-pairs blend into a new one when using lines. But only on a few monitors (i dunno if the manufacturer of the CRT or the maker of the monitor matters!) the colors are different depending if they're on even or odd lines!
With blue and brown I'd get a dark greyish red or a solid dark gray on a philips monitor, but not so on a 1084, here it would always be dark grey!
This means that in the downscrolling Aztec-picture in "Courtesy of Soviet" or the picture right afterwards you'd see a flicker (thanks to the scrolling making the lines switch between even and odd) on Philips, but not so on 1084... | User Comment Submitted by Ed on 2 February 2007
...Another piece of evidence of the malfunctioning Vice emulator. Here two different shades of purple color appear differentiated (different in general) on a real C64/c128 connected to a typical television generating a nice gaussian blur to the picture (built in CRT feature??)
Now why is it that people seem to have forgot to implement that? (Not the gaussian thing), but what the different colors look like if they are started on a different y-position and with this type of pattern drawn?? |
