it's based on this by the looks of it, and i would definitely now say 100% hand drawn. and actually i like it. it's got a bit of action and pizzaz about it. much more to my tastes than "arty" stuff. but i really do think it needs a darker border to make the light grey fool your eye into being "white".

it's an interesting one, because some parts look reasonably accomplished, whilst other parts look like they're done by someone who never drew a thing on a computer in their life before! I doubt we'll ever be able to conclude whether it's converted or not, though my hunch is that it's hand drawn, but uses pattern fills, as Ste said, and various "brushes" (the lower part of the boat looks like it could be done with some kind of spray can tool perhaps?).
Oh...and I quite like the orange background combined with the black and white! | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 15 September 2010
Right.. and my question then was if anyone would actually pixel a battleship that way? I am not that kind of graphician myself (mostly make fonts and logos when and if I do c64 graphics) but to me it feels unlikely... ...regarding the issue of whether there is any wiring involved here, although I agree with what you say regarding pattern filling in some parts of this picture.
I mean, when the picture is small sized, as it is here on the CSDb page, it looks quite intuitive as a battleship (a bit like how things sometimes look when you almost close your eyes, so shapes become more visible in noisy images), but when you enlarge the picture just a little bit, to make it closer to what it would be like on a c64 screen, then it looks almost as some sort of random trash that happens to look like a battleship. :) ..and my thought was that this might perhaps imply that there was some wiring involved after all? | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 15 September 2010
no its not an island its a battleship. from right to left u can see the bow, 2 forward gun turrets, the main bridge tower and a funnel. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 15 September 2010
Is it just me, or do you guys also clearly see a second ship in the background? You do, right? Anyway, that other ship is pixelled in a really weird way if it is hand pixelled. :)
(I guess it could also be an island, or something...) | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 15 September 2010
I don't think so Jan. the rest is just too "irregular" and stuff like the cabin area is too well defined. I think its just more likely an app was used that had fill patterns. | User Comment Submitted by SIDWAVE on 15 September 2010
yes, wired + fix worst clashes by hand. | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 15 September 2010
now this one's a bit strange. the bit pattern fill in the waves at the bottom say "wired" in some shape or form but the rest doesn't.
maybe a app that allows fill pattern definition. like Blazing Paddles. Pretty strange choice for a border colour tho :) |
