Pasted from the website (because I was curious what it this program might be good for):

dtv2ser is a small hardware device that bridges TLR’s dtvtrans protocol used to communicate with a DTV via a RS232 interface to your Mac or PC. By using an internal or external serial-to-USB adapter the dtv2ser provides dtvtrans access for all modern PCs where the original dtvtrans parallel cable cannot be used.

The data flow is as follows:

DTV <--dtvtrans--> dtv2ser <--RS232--> USB2Serial <--USB--> Mac/PC

The dtv2ser device published in previous dtv2ser releases required the creation of a custom PCB with an ATmega8 and FT232 chip. Therefore, only a very limited number of users was capable of recreating the device.

To make the device accessible for a wider user base I ported the firmware to the Arduino 2009 board. These boards are easily available almost everywhere. The dtv2ser modification only requires minimal HW modifications and soldering skills.

The new release 0.5 contains this new firmware and detailed instructions how to build your own device. On the software side nothing has changed - only some minor bug fixes were applied.

Have Fun building your own dtv2ser device :)
