Quoting booker
The mp3 I linked is recorded with Vice 2.3+resid-fp and (apart from few non important artefacts) sounds as my 8580 or Conrad's 6582

Actually C64 recording also has it. Must be GT packer "feature" because I can't hear it in the editor...

No worries Roman, it won't be neccessary.

Aha, and the "broken" beginning is just my failure to simulate backward playing. That's all :))

Booker, I'm really sorry for the mess. Next time I'll let you check on headphones, and maybe we will solve that.

Rephrasing the well known Polish saying "experiment has succeeded, the patient has died".

The mp3 I linked is recorded with Vice 2.3+resid-fp and (apart from few non important artefacts) sounds as my 8580 or Conrad's 6582, whereas at the compo it sounded more like 6581R4 AR. 8-)

I was playing this tune to few people at the party place later on and you can ask them yourself: they were able to distinguish a hell of the difference between what they've heard :) The only difference was they believed me the tune was played broken at the compo :D

Power to the mind or wtf! :>

Conrad, it was going through mix to amplifier, but there were no corrections I think. You could have heard the rest of the stuff was sounding ok.

Checked the .prg on my 8580 machine, the GT2 file in the editor and finally the MP3. In a slightly different way, all of them sound to be broken for me :)

Anyway, it doesn't fake the artistic freedom of intentional decisions. Soundwise there is a respectable amount of experimenting nature contained.

Well, apparently Booker checked the tune on my C64 at the party and told me it sounded as it should have. My C64 has a 6582 replacement but has the same die as a 8580. Kinda strange really. I personally think it has something to do with digital vs analogue output, i.e. less dynamic range if output at 44khz? Was there any software used between the compo C64 and the compo speaker setup?

This was tough. I was checking it before the compo and thought.. hm.. broken.. but then later it started to somehow clean up and have some melodical line, so I left it there without contacting Booker. Still at home when checking with different machines, I still have problem to belive what exactly is the propper playback. Maybe booker coould make MP3 recording from his machine. Aha, he did!! ;-) I will check it.

even if played correctly, i wouldn't predict places for such experiments. neat. own and distinct style found.
