@Jon - I'm partially tone deaf as well. I've never composed a music on c64, but about 5 years ago, I picked up an acoustic and electric guitar. I can't tune either guitar for the life of me, thankfully, I purchased an electronic tuner to help. I'm mostly playing blues and get this, I've started playing some c64 songs (I play along with Last ninja, can play Popcorn and I think the other song is called niggling).

That is due to my tone deaf ear and my inability to read sheet music. Turn it up to the point of audial distortion and maybe it will sound right.
