Based on my own drawing / painting on paper. The pixel work is done in PhotoShop in 2x2 pixel mode. The image is done as charsets and includes four colours that are then blown into having more colours with rasters. This was a test if colouring one 2x2 “pixel” with rasters could bring more tones to the final outcome.

Another test with colourmixing done in 2x2 mode, MC chars with rasters in three of the colours ($d800=black) + sprites on top and bottom borders. So the actual b/w pixeling is just 136 x 136 pixels.

This was based on a painting I made, see crop in the workstages.

Answering to Joe and others pondering why 2x2 mode: there is a very reason for that:

I was thinking on how to go further with the raster colouring and came up with this – with 2x2 mode I can actually have TWO colours in one 2x2 “pixel” that on a CRT get bit of mixed resulting in a mixed tone. You may notice that generally as the whole image looking bit outta C64 palette. 2x2 mode indeed looks bit outta C64 in general, kinda retroish look there

The whole thing worked actually better than I thought, as well that 2x2 colourmixing. So, I’ll prolly work on something more with this mode. If you’re a coder looking for some fresh approaches to effect, this might interest you as well – as this is in char mode should be relatively to easy to effect as well.

Anyway, here again I tried to pixel the b/w version the best way I could, putting all the ‘image information’ there and leaving the colours mostly just for the mixing. Due the details and the low resolution I also tried to keep the black dithering to minimum.

Again Kudos to Copyfault for the code.

And like ‘Fleshy’ this works fine with the recent updates of VICE. Just take a look at it on CRT which was the target.

I do not really agree with this! Are we coders now requested to respect the fact that there are outdated emulators still in use? Reference should be a real machine, but maybe that's just me being too naive or what...

Again: *if* you need a proper fix for older emus, pm me and I'll see what I can do. It does not help anybody if an emufuxxoring-anti-flaming is started...

On the pic: for me this has a good portion of CGA-vibe in it. The 2x2-pixeling is an absolute killer for me (in a positive way ofcourse). @Electric: this pixeling technique creates something really magic - outstanding!

GTKVice 3.4 & 3.5 works fine here.
Older Vice versions don't run though (CCS64 3.9.2 also not)
