A cover?
I reset the clock at the specific c64 -80 till -90:ies computer landscape thinking it was an original suitable to any endurable gfx-slide, demo or mag for sure.
Reminding me of things far from MJ, that is... Very nice, great sound!
Oh, well the scene has been much about copying things around the real world for long anyway.
And we do love copies, xerox:ies and things transformed contextually in our scene.
You got an anonymous 8 from me, just because I for once forgot about the oregano so too speak...

@Groepaz: Done, man... Homework learnt ;D
Tune: I like that. Very not my style, but the way you represented this song is a perfect fit.
RIP MJ.
Regardless of musical style, you must admire at least some of his works one way or another. Fuck scandals. Such a musical talent comes once in 100 years. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 5 July 2009
yep, nice one :)
and now put your production note(s) where it belongs and not into the scrolltext pretty please =P

Thank you, Drax, however I also think the snare is a bit silent (the original tune has sidestick-snare, which is also not that loud, but on c64 with 3 poliphony snare has to be louder).
I had to compromize between sound quality and loudness. So the snare was filtered, but I couldn't set the resonance louder then the $F. Maybe I didn't find the resonance-point of the snare-waves. If you have the solution for this, I would thank.
E.g. one solution to set the other voices to lower volume, but the ADSR was very restricted to have the chords long enough but not too loud.
BTW, I'm curious with which restart settings I should use the "Decay"-instruments like snare to be more precise & stronger.
I've listened it on several loudspeakers & earphones, and there were huge differences in volume of snare..of course the extremely low-band filtered sounds will only be heared on equipment that has enough bass range (min 20Hz lower freq limit...) | User Comment Submitted by Fanta on 5 July 2009
apart from the restart settings of bass and snare (too noisy for my taste)... lovely done! | User Comment Submitted by Clarence on 5 July 2009 User Comment Submitted by Linus on 5 July 2009
The sounds fit very well imho. Really dig the lead sound. Also, what Jeff said (yep, pretty rich words coming from a guy like me ;)). Great! | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 5 July 2009
raw sounds but brilliant in general \o/ | User Comment Submitted by DRAX on 5 July 2009
A really nice cover... The original tune is cheesy so a really good conversion... I kinda like the snare... Like the lead alot... you really added some good things to it :) | User Comment Submitted by Yazoo on 5 July 2009
nice cover version and yes the snares could be a bit louder but me likes it anyways | User Comment Submitted by Tim on 5 July 2009
@Jeff yup, cheesy like the original (my remark was certainly not meant as a negative!) | User Comment Submitted by SIDWAVE on 5 July 2009
Really good work Hermit, thx! | User Comment Submitted by Soren on 5 July 2009
Very lovely cover. Perhaps as the other mentioned the snare should be a little bit louder, BUT all the other sounds work great with the softnes they have. Especially when people for many years have overused hard restart, which just cuts too much of the sound between notes. In general I think this one shows that with a big of effort, one can actually make sounds that FIT the music. A skill that not many people master TOO well. Also, the original tune is kinda cheesy, so why shouldn't a c64 cover of it be cheesy aswell? :-) | User Comment Submitted by Hermit on 5 July 2009
Thank you for critics, I can learn a lot from them, and Coog, thank you for SID.
Anyway, I haven't mentioned anywhere that I've written it targeting 8580 SID. On 6581 the filters may make bass/snare sounds overfiltered.

This is a wonderful adaptation. Very nicely crafted. Love the subtle bassline. Excellent!

Sweet cheesy tune ;)
Agreed with Stainless, some sounds come off too soft (especially over my notebook speakers, had to check with headphones to hear all sounds) other then that a 7/10 for me | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 5 July 2009
Decent enough. A bit too cheesy for me tastes. Good lead, the snare is a wee bit too soft.

hmmm, lovely, and reminds me of music from Comalight 8 for some reason?!..
make more please Hermit! | User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 4 July 2009 User Comment Submitted by Hermit on 4 July 2009
For example you can use this tune if you want in the MJ music collection / demo.
If anyone decides to convert it into SID I would be really happy. |
