Yeah, if he used both his 6581 must have been unusually 8580-like, akin to the 6581R3 used in SOASC. Shang's Tale must be for the 6581 though as it uses cutoff value $00 which is inaudible on 8580.

I must admit I don't have a real 6581 here to check. But I've listened to his whole HVSC directory these days and at least with default settings and current libsidplayfp every tunes sounds like crap if I select 6581.

Also all of his tunes are from mid to late 90ies. Typical 8580 territory.

I'll stick to my opinion: the way the filters are programmed just doesn't make any sense on 6581. On the other hand I remember at least one musician (celticdesign) who switched from 6581 to 8580 because he had a 6581 that sounded so similar to 8580 that he was always confused when people complained about the sound :-)

He probably used both, with the right 6581 the filter distortion on his tunes feel too distinct to be 8580-only.

This is 100% made for 8580. Noone with that skill would do such filters on 6581.

Nice distorted electric guitar, but needs a 6581 with a very open filter.
