Mekka Symposium Report!

by Einstein/WOW,

as published in "Internal" #25 Magazine by "Warriors of the Wasteland"

Ok, this is Einstein back on the keys to give you another chapter!...

This time it's report time!...

A couple of weeks I decided to drive to MS... I called/emailed Bud and Sorex

about it.. and informed if they wanted to go with me....

The would! and so we drove off on saturday... one day after the party

started...

Anxiously I was waiting for Sorex to arrive... but he didn't... so I gave

him a call and he said he'd been fixing some of the bugs in "License" !...

I was quite surprised to get him awake as he had been working the whole

night... (his real work)!...

Oh well, after some minutes I decided to pick him up at his house so...I did!

At around 13.30 I arrived and we dove off to Bud/WOW who lives in the far

meadows in the dutch countryside... (ed. Hehe... yeah right!)!

We arrived there at around 16.00!.. Still a long way to go to Hannover...

Fallingborstel to be more exact...

Nevertheless I have the time of my life... So I wanted to visit Bundy, the

once proud and active graphician of WOW... Now he is a magic and playstation

addict life turns strange ways if you ask me...

Nevertheless we 'agreed' that he'd try to do some gfx for WOW once in a

while... Time will tell I guess!

Bud was wondering if we were still gonna drive to MS... So we did...

Hours and hours past by... driving through the steep land called Germany

faster than light... ahum... Well, we had a lot of work-obstacles but we

arrived at around 19.40 or so...

There we saw Aeg... at the entrance... On the parking lot we met the guys in

CULT! Again!.. They showed us where some of the WOW guys sat....

First impression of the Party...

Crowded... and very noisy... But cool yes!...

There we met Lybis and TheAlien.... Both laming around on amiga or pc!...

The place looked like a pig-stile... Well, some parts of it.. :)

Then our search went on.... We met old friends... and newer ones...

For me it was a pleasure meeting guys like... The WOW gang: Dst, Iceman,

TheAlien and Lybis...

Acidchild, Sebaloz, Anonym, Jihad, Bugjam... Didi... Aeg... Unlock... And the

fuckin' rest (ed. Don't take this too serious!...) ....

We heard that Aeg/Smash would present his last demo on MS... Bit shocked by

the news I'd say... He'd also propose his girl to marry him in the demo...

(ed. I expected a mega cool romantic honey demopart... but it turned out to

be a oneliner... argh...)

Anyway, having heard that news I was surprised why... Aeg always being the

first to 'protect' the c64, even though with PC cloned routines most of the

time.... He would leave it all behind... Later on I heard he has to join the

army soon... and I guess if he marries... Time will be short!...

I wish him hereby loads of luck....

What else was cool.... Well, meeting sebaloz was funny... I had to repeat my

handle 3 times before he got the message... He also said that in Poland a lot

of guys wore a badge... with their handle on... Well, I forgot mine...

Oh well....

The Party went on.... Loadsa noice and ambience... But I dislike that dude

always yelling... and shouting...

I found out it was a guy called STEELER... A name which would return in some

compos... Also the line: "Wer hat dicke Eier? ....... Steeler"

I found out that it had something to do with the former MS-parties... That

steeler dude is an organiser and he always had his hand in his pants and

from then on they figured he had big balls or so... well... strange...

I suppose!

WOW finally had a release... "License"... Although our next projects are

better we were happy but also a bit sad with it... After such a long time we

wanted to release a better product... But it was done by Lybis only... and I

guess for him it was his best effort for a demo so far... so...

What can I say... WOW will be showing you that it's still worth releasing

something for this scene... We love the c64 and we care about it...

Releasing is sometimes as important as trying to be(come) #1... Coz if

everyone stops doing stuff for the scene... The scene is dead... so...

"License" and some other reasons were the motiv to go and have a drink at one

of the local pubs with the WOW gang...

Lybis decided to stay behind, which was a bit shitty but helll... Bud,

TheAlien, Dst, Sorex, Iceman and Myself did go to one of the local pubs...

After some walking and talking we arrived at Tanz Cafe... Pretty lame we

thought but what the hell... We wanted to have a drink so we went inside...

At the end of the night... Around 3 o'clock the boss almost threw us out...

Iceman, Sorex and myself had been drinking a couple of beers... the others

were too tired... hehehehe... Dst for one had 3 beers and dozed off...

Pretty funny stuff.... Oh well, we had a nice chat and we realised we should

have those sort of meetings much more!...

I couldn't agree more.... That's when friends become real friends I'd say...

The trip back to the pub was fast... We still could walk straight enough so..

Then I decided to sleep... in my car... It was morning when I woke up...

I went inside... and well.. I was pretty tired... Dunno why really...

I didn't feel much at ease... But hell.... I talked a little with some people

and well... time past....

After sleeping another 3 hours in my car in a nice mid-day sun... Bud told me

he was feeling sick... he had stomach pain... sat on the toilet more than on

a normal chair, etc etc.... Well, after that we decided to leave as soon as

the compos were finished... But I was so... well... I wanted to leave coz of

Bud... coz of everything.. I didn't feel ok... coz the place was really

crowded.. too much noice etc... Maybe I am getting to old for this?... :)

The trip back was like usual.... ok... driving fast enough not to be bored to

death... etc etc...

After dropping bud and later sorex off I arrived at my girls'place... She was

a bit worried coz I called so late.... but everything was ok... I guess I am

not the slowest driver on earth.. but I try to be careful....

What I 'remember' off this party is that it was heaps better than 'the

party'... But 'X98' will be even better... pure c64 what a dream...

Hehe... Finally the date is set... September 18th I think... I am happy...

I will pay 100 guilders to be there..

But I will also be present on 'Wired98'! Organised by WOW+ROLE... for the

c64 competitions that is!.... I hope some cool sceners will be present...

It'll be the last one... so if you ever wanna say:I've been there... HURRY!

I promise you that you won't regret it no way... It'll rule... It's in

Belgium and it's cheap... cheap prices... cheap... everything...

Ok, I'm off... Hope you enjoyed this chapter!...

Einie signs off!
