Ideas for SID Compos
After the great success of the Crack Intro Music Competition 2013 some musicians are hungry for the next compo. So let's collect some ideas.
How about a compo for CHILL-OUT or LONGPLAY SIDs which you can listen for many minutes without getting on your nerves? |

Been there.

Mixer has a good point. Some diversity doesn't hurt. |

While I obvioulsly like limitations (otherwise I would not be on the C64), for me they should somehow make sense, meaning a SID as small as possible, using as little rastertime as possible or so could (in theory at least) serve a purpose (getting it into a tiny intro f.e.), while an arbitrary restriction like "use only 1 waveform" does not appeal to me very much, as it just artificially prevents one from using the power of the SID, without a specific goal - it is too "academic" for me, if you will. Hope my point is understandable. :-)
Therefore I would go for either tiny-SID or theme specific compos. |

@bugjam: reduced number of voices make sense for game use with simultaneous sfx.
Another idea for a compo: interactive music.
I'm thinking something like the Delta loader here but it should be possible to do something much more radical. |

A Digimusic Compo ofcourse ! This would be a real challenge for the most composers nowadays :) |

I guess that "vanilla sid" competitions will get larger participation than those requiring mad programming skillz.
Digistuff is somewhere in between. Only a few pure C-64 digi-tools available(Polly) and really no complete editor/tracker for Digi-crossdevelopement either.
PS: would be nice to see the single osc chord stuff implemented in all sid-editors/players :) *wink* That should bring some new sound. (Will make code examples available soonish, which is a different discussion for another thread)

Imho, whatever kind of SID compo that involves coding is just lame. The same goes for any compo that requires you to learn a new player/editor. Let whatever compo limitations/rules you like be of such a form that people can use the player they are used to. |
