New category - "Hall of Fame"

I need a new category as a status a member can have and this is "hall of fame", which means retired member that is still associated with the group. Like Hobbit for us - an almightly FairLight legend but none of the existing categories work for me. Inactive member is the closest but simply isn't close enough!

hobbit sent me some new c64 gfx a couple of months ago, so inactive would be a bit unfair =)

mmmm... who decides if a member is cool enough to be in the 'Hall of Fame' category?? the person who locked the group entry?

Would end up with all ppl that left the scene beeing put into the Hall of Fame I guess then.

We know who the legendary people were, no need to add a category for such I say.

Let the computer decide. 10 years of inactivity plus a personal score of more than 8.0 gives hall of fame status. :D Nah, just kidding...

I think this db (and especially its charts) are already overloaded with inactive hall of fame'rs. But I guess Bachus's intention was to give some extra recognition from the group to some special ex members. that is reasonable IMHO.

"inactive member" is good enough for this, why flood everything with pointless categories?

we could have an infinite number of these entrys like: kicked members, retired members, founders, in for friendship and so on.

And let't not forget those members who were just in the group for the sex! Lots of those in the scene as well ..

Seriously, I don't see the need for such an extra category either. You could ofcourse always add a list with those people in the trivia section of your group-entry.

At the risk of stepping of toes here, I guess many of you were in normal groups where people participate then leave or get kicked. Very few group can compare with FairLight with it's history. Some group made it to the stars and created names that live on, and only a few of the members are recognized as hall of fame members.

I don't expect all of you to understand the value of Mr.Z, Ixion and 3D of Triad but please trust me that these are guys who were the heart and souls of a group that lives on. I don't expect you to understand the value and respect of Strider, Hobbit, Gollum and a selected few members of FairLight, but these are guys wo devoted themselves to the group in such a successfull way that they simly cannot be "ex-menbers" either.

Triad and FairLight are the same here, "built stronger to last longer" and a few member can simply not be "ex-members". Please trust me when I say there is a category of people, who's souls will eternally wander on this scene to guard it and deserve the recognition, if by noone else then at least by their descendants in the same group.

Of course I hope that I myself made a footprint on this scene with is not like a footstep on the beach, washed away by the next wave, but a piece of rock that stays untill it's eroded some eons later.

Bacchus, your elitist attitude is funny. Anyway we're talking of inactive memberstatus here, and not of ex members. Thats fair enough. You're free to make a temple for the FLT gods, but such a category on csdb is only good for your ego boost and nothing else. If your heroes arent recognized by the scene as uber god a new category here wont help much anyway.

Mr.Z, Ixion, 3D, Strider, Hobbit, and Gollum will continue to be respected even though they're just listed as inactive and not hall of famers on CSDB. Some of our active sceners are highly respected, yet they're still only listed as coders, graphicians, and musicians.

..and one question still remains. Let's assume we created a "hall of fame" status, *who* would then have the authority to use it!? Everyone?! Admins!? Or maybe people that already have the "hall of fame" status!?!? Now this would get really funny in a while. Wouldn't we just create another "club of mutal admiration" Hmm, this goes better in Swedish.. "Klubb för inbördes beundran", Please help me someone :).

I really don't think we need a hall of fame on CSDB. People are respected for different reasons. These reasons are like opinions and everyone has a different opinion.

some are respected and some are not. Nobody should decide manually in that.

Think I'll have to agree with Bacchus for the most part here, if not totally. Although Jazzycat has made a valid point. Those that were, back then were the innovators. Sure people followed, as will and always do. But kudos is reserved for those that did, when "doing" it made a difference/standard... ?comprende'?

As a game fixer I'll always consider say for example: The Mind Slayer/INC as a legend. Because he was, and looking at his work he deserves that title. I think Stormbringer, Horizon, Pudwerx and other ntsc's would agree. He was one, if not the 1st of ntsc-fixer perfectionists (or as far as we could get something to work as close to the pal orig. without raping it)... yet is he on the charts?...hmm

Oswald, while I don't know who you are nor do I have anything against you, I have to disagree with you. Inactive means this to me, if you were not there then, you were NOT there. We quit to move on to other scenes/systems and dreaded as it may seem...real life.

Kudos speaks to the deserving and while I still think the "Top..." is outta wack, its the voters opinions. Don't really matter as I know who did what and when...

To the werds of my main man Ali G...Respekt! Go chek it..

Yeah, TMS did a great job NTSC fixing and yet he isn't remembered the same as Pud, Stormy or the rest. How is it that some guys are forgotten and yet others are placed on a pedestal?

A few reasons why certain NTSC guys aren't in the charts here:

CSDb is very PAL centric, majority of guys here are from "over there" and clueless about NTSC importing groups and/or NTSC scene in general.

Majority of guys here didn't have a modem and/or cards to call boards in the late 80s/early 90s. I'm looking at the logged in users on the right side of the screen here and of the eleven listed I remember none from my early days on boards (1988).

Another thing is that hardly anybody on this board was on the local meetings we had in Veenendaal, Holland every month, so that automatically disqualifies them as being 'legends' ..

Moloch: strange, as even back then I was on the boards, maybe not the ones you were on. Anyway, guess the same can be said with the Euro boards, that was another scene within the scene also.

Hall of Fame is just a pipe dream as there is only very few sceners that everyone would agree upon deserving such status, the rest is up for debate like everything else that has an opinion attached.

Thanks Burglar..I poke my head in here every once in a while. It's a shame there isn't more U.S. sceners here or some other place for us to congregate. I've seen some old heroes pop up here from time-to-time, Wanderer, Shark, etc.

Wanderer, an NTSC hero?

Say what you will about WDR, but he was incredibly active here on the NTSC scene. He was a member of some very dominant import groups, and his intros grace some of the bigger and better Euro releases here in the States.

So whether you agree or not, I'd consider him a "hero", scene-wise.

It's incredible but true, but I totally agree with Oswald on this. I say KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid!

You're either a member or you are not.
You are active or you are not.

What's in between?

I can imagine this qualification on a group-level. Still, i agree it's useless and history will tell.
