"AchROM1k"/Arise
1kB (crack?) intro for ICC2022
---------------------------------------------------

"achromic" [ey-kroh-mik] adj.
colorless; without coloring matter.

Another fun experiment in utilizing C64 ROMs for size-coding purposes.

The intro occupies $0801-$0bff per compo requirements (which is actually 1 byte short of 1kB excluding PRG header ;). Upon runtime it fills $0d00-$122e with additional data. Memory above remains untouched.

The intro is uncrunched.

It features:
- 0,57 kB of intro code including music player
- 0,04 kB of music data
- 0,04 kB of logo gfx ;)
- 0,00 kB of charset
- 1,04 kB of text

Intro starts with copying and modifying the original PETSCII charset. Then it proceeds to a crawler/indexer going through the BASIC ROM and building 100+ entries for the dictionary lookup table, then goes through local dictionary to add additional entries. There is maximum 127 entries in the dictionary, although the scroll text does not use all the BASIC ROM indexes. In next step the dictionary-coded scroll text is decoded to memory and the scroller is displayed.

That is basically all.
Sources for both the intro and the music are provided.
