Lots of great stuff here! Getting to rearrange this song was kinda fun, even if the sound engineering is kinda bad like some people said but $51 and $21 are fun waveforms.

Thanks for this wonderful compo and congrats to the winners! For me, selecting a top 3 would have been almost impossible so I didn't envy you that task :)

Deserved winners IMO, would have chosen pretty much the same. Great compo, was the kick in the butt I needed to try composing again. So happy you created it. :)

I was going to comment on every tune when time allows me to do so, but who am I kidding, there won't be such moment, so congrats to winners and thanks to Stinsen for such a great compo. Totally surprised by the variety and quality involved.

Congratulations to the winners and a big cheers to all those who entered! It was a great idea for a compo which I think should be repeated in the future - and very interesting to hear all the different takes on it. I can't get those chords out of my head now...Thanks to Stinsen for a great compo!

Listened to all entries again today. I'm so amazed about all the entries, can't believe this came out of my rather crappy original, but so glad you guys found some inspiration to make all these wonderful entries. <3 <3

Making decisions about winners was really hard, with so many awesome entries...

But since I have to, this is how it is going to be (shared third place since I couldn't make up my mind):

#1 Stinsen's Last Night of '89 by Laxity
#2 The Hangover by Yavin/Youth/Stinsen
#3 Last Night with Her Hitachi by Jammer/Stinsen
#3 One Billion Euro by Shogoon/Stinsen

Winners will be contacted via PM. Thanks again to all contributors and voters. <3

Just spent 3 hours listening through all the entries. I'm so humbled and overwhelmed, love all the different takes on the original. Thank you <3 <3

I will need some time to announce winners though, bear with me. :D

Just been listening through everyones entries, kudos to everyone who entered, I am loving the different directions everyone took.

hehe twitch… Personally, I think live-feeding my first reaction to leads and arrangements made on top of my own composition, would be a massive invasion of my God-given right to privacy, and put serious restraints on my default reaction patterns. :D

Stinsen, can you not live stream on Twitch when you listen to all this tunes? :D

@GH: Sorry, one more thing that was not properly detailed I guess. :P I intended for it to run for the full month, so up until the clock strikes twelve tomorrow night (CET I best add!) it is.

Thursday will be listening day, finally! \o/

@Burglar & company: However entertaining that concept may sound I will leave the twitch streaming to the pros (hi Mibri!). :D

For some reason, Musescore made my transcription private when I uploaded it. I now changed it to public, so hopefully you should be able to access it.

Stinsen said "I will not listen to any entries until after the deadline (despite how curious I am :), to make it more like a first listening at a party"

I don't think I'd be able to have such restraint, but wouldn't it be funny to stream your first reaction live on twitch?

For those of you interested, I transcribed this song on Musescore. Hopefully this should make visualizing the song a little easier and help with accuracy or ideas for the melody. Good luck!

I hope Drax, Laxity, JCH, Fanta, MCH, Steel, Toogle & the guys from Prosonix and many others will make a tune too.

What a funny idea for a compo. But let's post the bass+chord structure so there is less music editor-bias. :D

(since I am too lazy to just install the right editor, load the tune and analyze it myself..)

@Krill: Agreed, really unnecessary and unmotivated even. Like Linus implied there surely was some alcohol involved. I got a bit triggered by the money talk in the comments of the original song and the prizes somehow made sense at the time. Lesson learnt for the future, don't drink and make compos. :D

However I will not retroactively change the prizes, as that would be even worse.

Also I will not listen to any entries until after the deadline (despite how curious I am :), to make it more like a first listening at a party, so don't expect comments on any entries from me until then.

Is the non-symbolic substantial prize money necessary? Not even tangible C-64 related paraphernalia?

User Comment
Submitted by Stinsen on 5 March 2021
@chuinho: Feel free to change whatever you feel necessary, as long I as I can still hear the original chords and a melody in there. ;) And no insult taken, even though I probably earnt it. :D

is modifying the drums/bass/chords parts allowed? if so, to what extent? (don't treat it as an insult please ;))

User Comment
Submitted by Stinsen on 5 March 2021
Objections discussed with Linus offline, bring your entries. :D

The rules are simple. Make an interpretation of https://csdb.dk/release/?id=200743, but add some melodies on top of what is there. No restrictions whatsoever except you need to add a lead melody.

Sole judge is yours truly, if there are fewer than 10 entries I will forfeit the compo.

Prize table:

1st place) 1000 euro
2nd place) 500 euro
3rd place) 100 euro

BR, Stinsen
