Great conversion of a nice old Spectravideo game!

Code and conversion are well executed, game idea is nice, graphics are superb (I love the main character sprites and I'm completely overwhealmed by Joe's interpretation of the title screen and logo.)
Downsides from my perspective are:
- long waiting time between the levels for the music (I know, it's a conversion, but why not improve the original?)
- gets repetitive quickly (or maybe I didn't get far enough, but I'd have loved more different kinds of flames or so)

Other than that - top notch!

I didn't know this game (game idea) before. Very funny, very exciting! A beautiful and bravely adaption/conversion for our System. Thanx!!! :-))

This is a really frantic game indeed, especially on later levels! :) Good job!

Digger: Thanks! Correct, and the opposite for the logo - multicol sprites below charmode-based logo.

Simply awesome proudction (with nice intro as well). What's the mode for the title screen? Hires sprites over multi?

Looks good. Richard's idea is great, a conversion of the arcade Mappy, very addictive.

The first thing I thought was : "not so well known? This is a very famous title! and it excists already!" Ah well, that was "Frantic FREDDIE" . Completely different game :P
Very, well done! Great release! Hope there will be more to come!

Thanks for the thumbs, comments and critique. :) I have to agree with you all on Joe's awesome work on transfering the impression of the original game's artwork and logo into C64-land, and I'm happy about the cooperation. :)

Fredrik: Yeah, I decided to have the titlescreen tune (which isn't in the original game) in the same beepy cheerful squarewave-style, since anything more mellow or SID-like (pwm, filters, adsr, ring-mod etc) sounded out-of-place together with the ingame music/sfx, which I wanted to keep for nostalgic reasons. :)

Skate/Heavy Stylus: That 'get ready'-tune is indeed from the original game (people must have had more time on their hands in 1983) which I also thought of making skip-able (although it never happened). If you're two players, you have the time to swap the joystick between the players though. I reckon it could have been implemented more intelligible, like the shorter gameplay-intro on higher levels in TRSI's Spike.

Yogibear: Not bad for first try. :) Nope, no highscore-list in the original, but since I already made it ntsc-compatible, there should be some stuff left for the trainer-groups to add. ;)

Wile Coyote: Would be quite interesting to know the story behind why both games were named almost the same (and released the same year). :)

Frantic: =)

Man, that front pic is ace! Joe for president \o/

Very nice tribute / conversion. It works too smooth and solid to feel like a 1983 game - a good thing really :)

Good work guys!

Great loading screen.
I was expecting to see a multicolour hires take on another Frantic Freddy

Yeah, just played it. Perhaps a bit too old school for my taste, but I'm sure it's a worthy tribute to the original and I like the design :)

That 'Get Ready' tune/pause should be possible to skip by pressing the fire button IMO ;)

Great title screen, lovely game(play) and neat music! In my first go I got to the respectable score of 5030 points! (level 1) With some practice that should become much more! :) Maybe a high score list with saver would be nice but that's probably also not in the original.

Nice graphics, good game play. Awesome. I wonder if anyone can do a C64 conversion of the arcade classic, Mappy :)

Extremely lovely titlescreen. Couldn't get past the 2nd level on the first couple of attempts though.

great oldschool game. only downside is that extremely long "prepare to play" tune. but i guess it's the original game's fault. :)

I really like the music, even if i have never heard the original gametune.
I like the style of that sid. (true "blib blop" music :)
Well done encore!
Now, i must play the game on my real c64 and perhaps it is as good as the music :)
I have just got a package of new 5,25" diskettes and will transfer the game to one of my new diskettes.

Here it is! \o/ The game I've been hammering away on since the end of october last year. It's a C64 conversion of the not so wellknown Spectravideo-game 'Frantic Freddy'. Hope you enjoy it! Credited Stryyker also, since I used his Protext for the manual.
