I just came here to comment and see a former self has done that. Not sure how this great work exited my brain but it is lovely "hearing it again for the first time". | User Comment Submitted by DivertigO on 9 November 2016 User Comment Submitted by bepp on 11 October 2016
SO AWESOME! I love you Flex :) | User Comment Submitted by Zardax on 24 September 2016
I am so, so proud of my fella. Awesome job! | User Comment Submitted by Pad on 23 September 2016
I've had this on repeat on Soundcloud for days now. I must have heard it 25 times. Perfect! | User Comment Submitted by RaveGuru on 23 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Toggle on 22 September 2016
I must admit that I had never heard the original before, but this is an awesome cover! Great job, Flex :-) | User Comment Submitted by Toddi on 22 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 22 September 2016
"Technically it was ridiculously ambitious for it's time"
not so sure about that. all that texts about 27 zillion polygons and lightsources are bullshit. most fx is just the usual env map. | User Comment Submitted by RaveGuru on 22 September 2016
Dope by Complex has a massive place deep in my heart for various reasons. Technically it was ridiculously ambitious for it's time (it is struggling on a 486/66mhz) and that it's made by just 2 guys (hello Bozze) but somehow they manage to pull it off.
Jugi's soundtrack is spot on to the dark code/pr0n aesthetics of the demo. Although the demo is slow, the upbeat music gives it a nice flow.
I remember almost crying by awe the first time I watched and heard the demo. It was also an emotionally turbulent time in my life, and the soundtrack dug its way deep down my young data-soul :)
Fast forward 16 years to 2011 and the making of 1991/Booze Design. I had already decided on doing a sid remake of an old PC demo and I had a few candidates that I knew could work in a SID version, and Onward Ride was one of them.
I do indeed have a worktune called "Onward" in my GT directory but I decided early on that I wouldn't be able to do it justice and instead settled on doing a remake of "Desert Dawn" by Lizard King from Crystal Dreams II /Triton (which I'm pretty pleased with tbh) :)
TL;DR: Happy that someone finally made it justice! Good job FLEX!
The ride goes ever onward.... | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 22 September 2016
trying to emulate the first minutes which is built on ambient chords with a 1 chan arp doesnt work for me. main theme comes through nice tho. | User Comment Submitted by Linus on 22 September 2016
The original composition is not my cup of tea at all. Nice rendition tho that apparently made a lot of people happy. Kudos! :) | User Comment Submitted by wysiwtf on 22 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Ant on 22 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 21 September 2016
I've finally got acquainted with original tune already and have to say it's not very captivating. I'll never understand some things in the universe, apparently :D Still, props for very remaking effort, job done :) | User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 21 September 2016
Quite good tune from a very boring demo. Great cover. :-) | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 21 September 2016
Superb work here! thumbs up Flex! | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 21 September 2016
Being a lamer unaware of the original you're all babbling about, I probably miss all the bang here. Still, tune is very nice however not that complex ;) | User Comment Submitted by Smasher on 20 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by c0zmo on 20 September 2016
Flex, this is fantastic. Thank you. Honestly. <3 | User Comment Submitted by grasstust on 20 September 2016
One of the best ever demo tunes has come home! Great version! Thank you. | User Comment Submitted by Xiny6581 on 20 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Stinsen on 20 September 2016
A bold choice of song to make a cover of, but you pulled it off very well in my opinion. :) | User Comment Submitted by The Human Code Machine on 20 September 2016
Thx for your awesome conversion :) | User Comment Submitted by Dr.Science on 20 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Rock on 20 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Slator on 20 September 2016
very "complex" song, the one from 21 years ago is still one of my favourite pc demosongs. really nice version, me loves. | User Comment Submitted by Mixer on 20 September 2016
Dope, just can't get it out of my head. | User Comment Submitted by Flex on 20 September 2016
Thanks for nice comments.
@wysiwtf: it should be pretty accurate (some artistic freedom included) except for the beginning that is extended in the original. Haven't checked out the BPM what it tells us.. | User Comment Submitted by Pad on 20 September 2016
Always awesome stuff from Flex! | User Comment Submitted by bepp on 20 September 2016
Nice cover on one of my all-time favorite demo soundtracks! | User Comment Submitted by wysiwtf on 19 September 2016
very nice remake indeed!
i wonder how accurate it is? i mean would it be possible to sync it to the actual pc demo? just getting ideas... | User Comment Submitted by Soren on 19 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by Kronos on 19 September 2016
Awesome. Now I ask for a c64 remake of this legendary demo :-) | User Comment Submitted by Dymo on 19 September 2016 User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 19 September 2016
