AS IT SHOULD! Do not release "inferior" releases! Test your shit. Allowing multiple versions for the same entry would only ENCOURAGE lame and hasty releases. "Doesn't matter if it bugs a bit, I can always upload a better version to the same entry". I'm not even going to ask how that would make it easier for people to find the ideal version. In fact, this is completely off-topic and should be moved to the forum again but fuck it, I just grow weary of seeing these arguments which honestly only spring from a string of poorly tested releases from FLT. | User Comment Submitted by Bacchus on 26 December 2017
Dr.J:
- There is still a fight over the first release and this means that waiting is not an option if you want to grab the firstie. Here you have the original release and potential subsequent fixes and other groups version that add something that gives credits on Jazzcats list.
- Back in the days of Gamer's Guide, cracking first was one option but GG made it also the fight over who cracked the best. Smashing an intro on the game you were below junior league in quality. This was my favourite fight. Here anyone can make another release and you could see how it compared. This form - multiple version of the same game - is sort of not around anymore.
So if cracking is to be, there are the options of cracking first (still valid) and cracking old games a lot better than an old ones. A third one would be to crack it and also provide a total makeover.
The other question is how the different versions are presented at CSDB and what constitutes a version. Here, a lot of people is of the opinion that a few byte fixpatch of a release makes a new version that shall be stored as a separate entry. There is then a marker that states "broken" on the old one.
If you want to replace an old version with one where you added stuff (hence - old not broken but still inferior) the CSDB is really making life difficult for you. Upload a new version, add comments and crosslinks and hope that people will pick of the better version. This is seemingly important for the admins to keep it as it is, and not give any valid argument why the obvious inferior approach much be upheld. The idea is seemingly so bad that no relevant counter arguments need to be presented for the status que position... | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 26 December 2017
i have a lot of Disputes regarding cracking commercial games nowadays and its prolly not the right place to mention all of them (hint: i dislike it , cause piracy for me is out of fashion but i can accept others wishes and thoughts and i also like remix versions of old legendary games like Nostalgia and others have made ) but i really can't understand why to release so many versions and how i can distinguish which one is the best one, and why to keep the others which is bugged (and probably made with rush to be "first release" ) ..why not to wait a few days and prepare a suitable version . what is the meaning of First Release nowadays ? for me- nothing sorry for that . 90% of the released games are crappy anyways and the best ones , i better to buy or to wait when i can afford to buy it. i know its was very "hot potato" subject for many years and it was put on the table now with Sam's Journey but come lets be more tolerate to the commercial producers , in this case Sam's Journey developers who made a magical game and probably the best new game for recent years . my conclusion: lets wait a month and release a good crack version (again: i don't support it but if you crack it so wait with the crack) and give a jewel version. my 5 cent thought and sorry for my crackers friends (i used to be a cracker in older times) | User Comment Submitted by Bacchus on 26 December 2017
I am not whining about releases. Bugs do happen. I just whine over how CSDB present them.
From what I can tell without downloading the version, Didi did a swell job. | User Comment Submitted by Jazzcat on 26 December 2017
Sure Tim. thanks for your feedback. | User Comment Submitted by Tim on 26 December 2017
I find it hard to fault Didi for being willing to help others, as well as respect a cracker going in for a second fix - it happens.
However, although edited.. the docs file, similar to the one used to warrant a first release, is still broken.
Jazzcat, if you are OEMing Onslaught releases, and you only have one job.. at least have the decency to check if you put the damn badge on straight before rushing your release out of the door again. | User Comment Submitted by spider-j on 26 December 2017 User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 25 December 2017
do you guys have nothing else to do than whining on a csdb release? | User Comment Submitted by Jazzcat on 25 December 2017
Chancer: not laughable to the guys begging for it from me via PM and email as they cannot afford the original. :D | User Comment Submitted by Bacchus on 25 December 2017
This game has been in the making for so long and it's looking awesome.
Given a number of uploaded versions that look the same, I am honestly VERY confused which is the last and proper one.
Having said this, I'm just bringing my popcorns to a place where I have a nice view where people can discuss the merits of GROUPING THE BLOODY SAME RELEASE WITH MINOR PATCHES INTO ONE CSDB ENTRY ...
Chewing already ... | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 25 December 2017
This is the second version I am involved and a bugfix version of a faulty trainer. I cleanup my own shit if it comes to my knowledge. So what? | User Comment Submitted by chancer on 25 December 2017
how many more versions of this are you gonna put out? .. only more laughable is the ONS version.. put out *ONE* version, that's quality (or 2 if it needs fixing). I'm sure most of us will buy this anyway. | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 25 December 2017
Getting high on 8bit is less dangerous than on any other shit. :p | User Comment Submitted by Snabel on 25 December 2017
Rules are bendable, it seems. The hunt for points reminds me of a crackwhore looking for her next fix... and yes, i grew up in Vestegnen, so i know a crackwhore when i see one ;) | User Comment Submitted by nomistake on 25 December 2017
just wondering: is this the final first release, or are you going to release some more of those? |
