TheRyk, to be frank it was originally 3 spinning sprite star animations, but I ran out of memory when started adding more important elements.
To be exact, the competition rules specified an artificial 16kb memory limit, that the intro hit.

some xmases later the 3-dot-starfield still provides discussion :D

Really cool performance by Clarence. It is a real joy to watch your productions! Only thing I dislike is that you start revealing your tricks :) (I wanna solve it myself)

I love how the stretching logo bumps onto the scroller and how the scroller bounces back ... and a very catchy sid!!

Wonderful ! I also like the way the logo faded in from the bottom with the music :) Plus this 6-7 raster lines tune, just WOW !

Wow. What an effect, love the fade-in, too. Not sure about the starfield, though :)

WOW. With the explanations and watching it in a debugger I sort of get what's happening, but I still can't imagine it actually being done.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

@TheRyk, thanks for noticing the awesome 3 dot starfield. Ofcourse it is intended. :)

@Golara + Oswald, the improvement is in the width of the ghostbyte constructed letters, that are not limited to 5-6 pixels like the other routines (we are up to 17 here). Ofcourse it is still ghostbyte and background color trick, but taken one step further of exploiting the placement and symmetry of some characters. Still Irrational has a unique property, doing such effect on a non-black background.

Please appreciate GRG's efforts for delivering a very low rastertime & memory footprint tune a week ago, that allowed for me to insert the 10 sprite fx in the intro, which was laying around half-finished since 2009.
That might also explain the disconnect of design between the two areas, some people noticed, but I was kind of lazy to redraw the special gfx it needs.

Nice intro. Design is like Microsoft Comic Sans, but nice work. I can't find anything special in this one.

Not so sure about the graphics, but everything else... wow. Would love to know how it's all done.

A technical masterpiece, for sure. If I was to pick one fault then, for me, it would be that it doesn’t look quite as clean/tidy as I would like for an intro. Fantastic coding as always though.

Excellent. I never saw a cracktro that used the full effect like this. :) Looks like the Dark Horse of the competition :)

nice to see good old Clarence touching the breadbin. The logo swing came out nicely. I think this is more than irrational as you get 10 letters + 1 dot :) + the extra letters are not just an "I". No idea how its done.

yepps... I just remembered that Protons FIG intro was put outside the compo due to more than 4k... I did not know it was two compos in one :-)

Fantastic screen no matter what.
What is the effect in upper border?

I guess it was only Pal who didn't factcheck it ;)

Sweet Jebus! That's some impressive VICII trickery.

As for 4kb, it uses the 'c64 intro' tag and the crunched file is 8KB, so unless an extremely shitty packer was used, I'd say 16KB.

Super impressive but it uses 16k of RAM, and not 4k or?

Submitted by Golara on 28 December 2019
I was impressed enough with just the sprites in the top, though you've done it before in "Irrational" but the logo movement is sexy as fuck :D 10 from me

stylish as hell and very very neat.

As someone MUST ask the glitch or feature question(sorry): Is there an intended starfield effect or is it new VIC grey dots?
