very cool, my thumbs up =) | User Comment Submitted by Rio on 19 December 2006
yes nice tool, really... but had to install all the dotnetfx stuff...:(
seems.. that your program isn't too stable enough yet (crashs).
The debug stress test makes trouble on my HDD after closing programm too :/
When will be next version released?
Where i can get a compiled RotateAndZoom Effekt .dll? | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 30 August 2006
what's the password, hmmm ;)
shishkebab?
shikaka?
dotnetfx? :D

Jammer, seems you don't know the secret codeword of the underground cult of C64 fullscreen graphicians. Well man, that one needs more than just a couple of small graphics, we can't let you install Timanthes... Sorry! | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 30 August 2006
'application not initialised properly', what the heck :| | User Comment Submitted by Valsary on 29 August 2006
Great tool...i think my dreams come true, i can paint c64 gfx at my work place ;) | User Comment Submitted by ptoing on 28 August 2006
I think you should add the Pepto palette as well. Imo best palette there is as far as authenticy goes. | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 24 August 2006
@jetboy:
It's almost ready for a full 1.0 release :)
The most important changes that will be added by then are:
1. I've removed that nasty bug that made it crash all the time
2. It has 3 different palettes now (timanthes, vice, frodo) so white can be white aswell, not the lightgray it used to be
3. It has proper support for sprites and sprite/background priority
4. More layer options like rearrange colours so they pack better for irq-loaders
5. You can now specify where the different bits of pictures are exported to so you can specify exactly which format you would like the picture to be saved in
6. Support to add a viewer to an exported image and an option to start the picture in vice immediately after you've exported the image
7. an 'argument' layer, so if you want to make a game or a demo which needs each char to have a specific number you can say: 'this char is a wall, this char is water' or in the case of a demo: 'this char needs to colourfade, this char has to scroll up' etc.
8. option to save a startadress or not (this is because people use different assemblers/linkers)
9. support for custom restriction modes (i.e. if a coder wants a gfxian to keep $d800 colours the same every 8 rasterlines then you can set up a mode that does just that)
The last three images I released were all drawn/pixeled in timanthes, so it gave me some time to properly test the program myself
If you've got any suggestions can you please post them in the thread that's been created for this? Thanks :) | User Comment Submitted by Jetboy on 24 August 2006
@Mirage: is there any update to this excelent program?
I wonder about sprite export.
Also i have some ideas for improvements if you are interested.

The sourcecode has been made available, second download link
- Use Visual Studio .NET 2003 to compile (haven't tried it with other versions)
- You'll need the MS 'ink' library to compile (this is for tablet support)
- helpfiles not included, so only debug/release build will work, not packaged builds
Not sure if anybody wants to download this, and i'm not actually forced to do this (see src/setup/license.txt), but i decided to anyway just in case people are curious about the code, so there you go :) | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 7 April 2006
Ninjasbane: just keep pressing CTRL+S often. | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 7 April 2006
you managed to work for three full hours before it crashed? wow! and you managed to do that three times? wow! usually it crashes much sooner :)
sorry though, still beta, blahblah, save more often... most of the time when it crashes with a red cross you can still click continue and save the file with a different filename | User Comment Submitted by TDJ on 3 April 2006
I told a friend of mine about this program and he is very interested in doing stuff with it. He is not a scener, has never been but might become one. So all hail to Mirage for actually making it possible that new people will join us in our quest ;) | User Comment Submitted by wozza on 27 March 2006
Quite simply; this will add new endevour to the scene : congratulations! | User Comment Submitted by madcrow on 27 March 2006
Brilliant program, but .NET is kinda lame... Still, if the work to port this to Mono (aka .NET for Linux) is done, then the crossplatformess would cancel out the evil of .NET | User Comment Submitted by Sixx on 26 March 2006
Just tried it out and my first reaction was that this is fucking sick!! I've never seen anything as beautiful in my entire life. | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 26 March 2006
I just added some trivia notes which will hopefully explain one or two questions :)
Oh, and like Sander said, it is possible to draw c64 pictures with a wacom tablet if you feel adventurous... haven't done much testing with it yet but i'm sure there are people around who want to test pixeling with a tablet :) | User Comment Submitted by Deev on 26 March 2006
I agree with what Sander says.
Also, pixelling ability alone isn't enough to impress me with C64 graphics anymore, I'm just as interested in seeing people's ideas. With this tool anyone can do a nice conversion of a photo, so graphicians have to add that something extra to their work to stand out. At the same time, perhaps people who weren't so great technically can now create some nice art.
I'm not going to just wire loads of shit from now on and I'm not going to abandon oldstyle pixelling (I'd feel a total fraud entering something into a graphics compo using some of these tools!), but I'm looking forward to a new approach to doing something on the c64.
Just because this tool has power, doesn't mean everyone can suddenly create great work, just as a scanner and a few Photoshop filters aren't enough to make great art on the PC. | User Comment Submitted by Tch on 26 March 2006
Good and easy to use program!
But I already ended up in zooming to the pixelsize of most C64 editors.
Just like when I tried painting on the Amiga a long time ago. ;) | User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 26 March 2006 User Comment Submitted by cadaver on 26 March 2006
Now we only need a codegenerator/optimizer to finalize the unholy trinity. :)
(In all seriousness, this tool rocks, lots of respect to the author. But in theoretical discussion, the concept of too dangerous/powerful utilities is interesting) | User Comment Submitted by hollowman on 26 March 2006 User Comment Submitted by hannenz on 26 March 2006
yep. great tool. really nice! | User Comment Submitted by Sander on 26 March 2006
I can only second Twoflower's statement.
For myself, i'm very occupied these days (yes, i've grown up..) and therefore this tool comes in really handy. Personally i consider the craft of pixelling not THE fun part of doing creative stuff on c64. (hell, pixelling itself is not the real creative part of the process).
So therefore i can only embrace a program like this, give me the opportunity to make c64 graphics again and concentrate on the creative part.
I'm a pixel-purist when it comes to pixel-compos (hence the name), where both the creative and the craft go hand in hand to be judged. But that's a whole different discussion, not to be held here.
Also take in mind that this tool could breathe new life into c-64 pixeling in general. With the use of a e.g. a wacom tablet different styles could more be applied on the c64.
And please, use whatever program you like, Timanthes suites my wishes best. | User Comment Submitted by Style on 26 March 2006
According to jailbird even us completely graphically inept people will be producing works of art in moments!
Im sooooo there! :) | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 26 March 2006
Eventhough this is in beta, it's still an outright wonderful program for conversions, retouching of C64 images and most importantly pixeling. Eventhough some functions isn't perfect yet, the program is intuitive and you'll get the hang of it within an half an hour. A graphicsprogram made for graphicians by a graphician. | User Comment Submitted by Hein on 26 March 2006
\o/ Finally..
This is a Beta version.. | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 26 March 2006
Last week I was experimenting a lot with the program but if PC - then I'll stick with Project One for it's minimalism, simplicity and for being much closer to my needs (pick color/put pixel/save picture). I'm sure Timanthes will be really useful for a lot of people. Unfortunately, especially for those who will like to do magic with two mouse clicks... This program is a swiss army knife and/or an automatic eye-candy generator.
And for the same reason I'm very concerned. It automatizes pixelling methods which actually need serious skills - and doing it on a high level. All my respect to Mirage for creating this amazing tool, but sadly it seems to me as just another factor wich will decrease the value of hand pixelling. | User Comment Submitted by Style on 26 March 2006
Is this still in beta or is this v1?
