What's the trouble?
I would use it as crack intro any time;)
maybe there are still a few bytes left free for a loader :D
anyway I totally approve Moose Design!
@david: we need to share some more afrika beer and thai food sometime again | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 14 February 2023
Sounds like i have to put this kind of routine on my todo list :) How hard can it be really, its just boring raster stuff =D | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 14 February 2023
@Oswald: You're totally right, and i realize more and more that this little demo doesn't show off much of what this scroller is capable of.. I should really stop drinking at parties :P. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 14 February 2023
HCL, you can also scroll the sprites with x coo "and gfx will follow" ? you can even doublebuffer it (sprite fpp, use different sprite lines), and spready the copy job. But anyway I understand: one must really sit down and try to code this to grasp how hard it really is. probably I still dont see most of the complexity, fex I havent made memory maps how it all would fit with sprites chars screens. But, all the registers needed to be updated per line is scary already. | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 14 February 2023
@Clarence: Nope, the char-area is easy-peasy.. as it is char-mode (ecm) you can just move the chars one step and all the gfx will follow.
Then there is the sprite-area.. which is made of six sprites.. scrolling this gfx will give you a bit more headache. | User Comment Submitted by Clarence on 13 February 2023
"Wonder why there's only 48 lines when Crest did 56, but I guess there's a good reason when it's HCL."
Well, at least the non sprite portion of the scroll needs to be double buffered somehow I guess (think of it as a bitmap scroller that is 6 chars high), that takes some effort in a case like this, and takes extra memory compared to the static stretcher. Just a guess... | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 13 February 2023
Nice logo.. ^_^
Nice tune.. ^_^
The side-border scroller i see in VICE 3.1 is probably doing stuff it is not supposed to be doing?
..as it is difficult to read at times.
As i type this comment, CSDb fails to disclose the credit for the logo. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 13 February 2023
" Guess i'm just lazy using too much memory for my scrolling code and whatnot"
good one :D ok I have no idea what could prevent one from using those 8 lines. | User Comment Submitted by Clarence on 13 February 2023
HCL, Cruzer: my version of this in Demode was 28 lines high for 2 chars tech-tech (total 56 lines).
About the bug, I remember I had to somewhat limit the fpp movements, because at bank switching points the sprite component bugged if there was a line advance/decrease of more than one line.
Nice little prod anyways! | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 13 February 2023
@Cruzer and @Oswald: 56 lines is theoretical max, so yes.. you can do it :). Guess i'm just lazy using too much memory for my scrolling code and whatnot.. but glitches in Vice!?? hmm.. haven't seen those yet.
@Digger: I guess the limited twisting is due to drinking beer instead of showcasing all stuff you can do with an FPP.. I really wanted to have a few different sinuses, but doh:( | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 13 February 2023
hmm I wondered also whats the fuss when theoretically 56 lines is possible, then my calculations were correct. the movement pattern is weird indeed. | User Comment Submitted by Cruzer on 13 February 2023
Great scroller, although a bit glitchy, at least in Vice. Wonder why there's only 48 lines when Crest did 56, but I guess there's a good reason when it's HCL. Really tempting to try to beat this though. :) Also top-dollar logo! | User Comment Submitted by Digger on 13 February 2023
Is the somewhat limited twisting related to ECM trick limitations? | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 13 February 2023
Soon 24 hours since the party closed the doors, and still noone has come up with a replica of this scroller.. Proving me right then ;).. | User Comment Submitted by Monte Carlos on 12 February 2023
Moose design sounds like a valid a alternative and like a good follow up of group names like goat or camel-ot |
