i absolutely love how that rotozoomer is so massive that it even extends into the upper and lower borders! a very subtle detail.

also, that slimy plasma-like transition, that looks almost like a film burn effect, is extremely smooth. and the dypps are impossibly smooth as well.

My two worlds come together in this excellent demo \o/ The Rubik's Cube & The C64! Very Cool! Love the music!

Oh wow, I missed this gem back when it was released.

Also, gdit, I've been meaning to do a realtime rubik's cube for years; didn't realise Booze had already done such a lovely job back in 2010 :)

A solid demo that deserves a great score. My fave parts are the Rubik cube and the isometric word art. Also you gotta love Archmage's pictures.
@Testa: yes you can clearly see a face in there that gets swirled and twisted.

maybe a strange guestion, immediately when the twist en wobble plasma begins i always see a face, is this my imagination or is it obviously that this is the intention.. and no i dont use drugs... oh boy i really love this demo..

Ahhhh, that explains it then. Thanks - at least I *should* be able to use this on my 1541 Ulimate II (when it arrives).

It's not a single file, it just looks that way. There's data on the rest on the disk aswell.

You will not be able to run it with your MMC-replay. Best is to transfer it to a real disk.

In WinVICE, use True Drive emulation, or it will not work.

No idea what I am doing wrong... I can't get this to work at all. In winVice I get a CPU Jam after the initial screen wipe from the basic prompt. I tried copying over the single-file to my MMC-REPLAY and it seems to stop at the same place :(

Having all those math power "enslave" all in ure hands why so cold demos? No place for art anymore? 100% pure code yes/but

Thanks for this one guys, excellent work! I was hoping to finally get a pedagogical lesson on how to solve the Rubik's cube, but got a little disappointed there. :)

This demo grows after seeing it some times, love the opening part of the demo combined with the great music. This demo for some reason reminds me of an old amiga demo by the kefrens called D.A.N.E same sweet flow and design. Love it!

When watching this demo, I feel like I'm seeing it with the music from a different demo running beside it. I just don't think it fits. I'm a huge fan of Dane's work, and I also think this tune is great too, I just don't think it fit like it did in Andropolis and EOD.

Oh, and Archmage: Dane competed with EOD's soundtrack at X'2008 and got 4th place, so no excuses! ;)

Anyway, a nice production!

Thank you folks for all the nice comments and special thanks to iopop/triad.

He was the one who came up with idea on how to render isometric-graphics really fast and simple. Without his ideas the isometric parts in this demo would never have existed.

Arch: fair enough. And no, I don't think there are such rules you mention (at least not at X) but again I can have a lookie at the still-frame on here whenever I like so it's fine with me :))

Really nice demo, for sure the most polished one in the compo.

The rubix cube in the demopart is not solvable anyways, it has a block which is blue on 2 sides :P

@Shadow: That is, I am sad to say, an unforgivable neglection on our part. Of course you belong in that list mate. Sorry. :(
@Booker: I thought of doing that for a second, but the pixels are made for this demo specifically so I decided not to. And besides, aren't there rules against that? I am sure there were in the olden days of yore.
@Truck: Oh, but it was solved. Last picture.

Cheers for this folks!

(Archmage, you could've put this dude with the rubik cube on the compo, no? :P )

@Shadow Mekanix is compo winning material, although it didn’t feel as fresh as the two demo’s that ranked higher. If you have seen the excellent demos released recently by Booze Design, at times Mekanix felt like more of the same, without being as good as those demos. The zooming side-border scroller is a classic example, Edge of Disgrace features a really good zooming side-border scroller.

Shadow, it's referring to Demode. And nice one indeed, especially the rotzoomer was beautiful!

I can't believe that this didn't win the compo!
Excellent in every aspect, fantastic code, supersmooth design and transitions and beautiful graphics etc.
The isometric-voxel-thing was really fresh and interesting.

Btw. what is the story behind the call-out of Clarence in the DYPP-part? I get the feeling that there is some demo I should watch get the start of this!

Only one complaint - what is up with blatant omission from the greetings? Archmage, Dane, come on guys - we have even worked on a demo together!!? :P

This was by far my favorite of the compo. It contains several effects, some original (gouraud looking shade edges as lines), some seemingly impossible (massive rotozoomers and isometric volumes).

I literally screamed HOW? HOW? BUT HOW? with the volume effects rendered in the isometric style, they seemed so smooth, so good and so impossible at first (but giving it a second thought,.. mmm)

I agree that this demo could have won the compo if it were from another group. We were all in big expectations and I guess that's why it didn't rank much higher. I very much appreciate the work you do in this demo. It is so polished, fast pacing with such professional touch. You always keep producing with such an effort that no one can keep up. Thanks for this nice demo and for all your efforts. You rock!

I guess after EoD and Andropolis my expectations were too high for this one :) Top notch material, but I'd have preferred a bit less recycling. Still a lot of ass kicking and inspiring parts are in there. Dont get me wrong tho, its the best one from the compo for me :) And now that I see its not always an EoD or Andropolis coming from you guys, I feel more like doing a big and serious demo, because of having more chances ;)

I now feel like I was fisted in the ass by HCL after he showed how much better the rotator looks when it's textured and a bit bigger. And my ass was still a bit sore after Crossbow's attack ;)

Great demo guys!

My personal favorite from the demo compo. I liked the voxel torus, the dot record, and the dyspp a lot. the zoomers and the roto zoomer a lot again but not as much as the others. The voxel metaballs looked pretty confusing and were my least favorite. The 4x4 2d graphics effect was nice and fast too

Music was professional but not my cup of tea. The graphics were really nice.

I really enjoyed the competitive text :) the clarence-attack, the "condolances" to other groups etc :) I love that tone :)

This demo would have won if it came from an unknown/underground team. Unfortunately, creators lost against their past work. :) One of the best demos of the compo, that's for sure. Mostly improved effects, but that's not a bad thing.

Code wise the best demo of the party. Feels like a cold blooded professional work, but a bit feels like there is missing something. Maybe too similar to earlier stuff, also I see a few recycled (slightly different) elements. Great demo nontheless!

@HCL, I was about to complain when will you release the dypps, that was our agreement if you remember (if I beat the 15 dycpers etc.). Now we are even, ok? :) For a while. :P

I wish Archmage would make a short film based on the motif within the screenshot!!! Absolutely awesome image!!
Demo as a whole brings new life to c64 again! when will the demo amazement end?? i thought it would be in 1994, not 2084!!

Best part: NOT solving the rubik's cube, and avoiding the 2 traditional "rubik's cube" discussions - how solving it is a simple matter of playing back the scramble moves, and how it took too much time. effing brilliant cutting it short after just enough time (:

Great stuff again, my favorite part was the Rubik's cube. As a coder, I love parts that make me go "how do they do that?" and this demo certainly has its share of those :)
